This vechicle parked on a street restricted to commerical traffic on Saturday caught my attention with placard, photo ID and badge prominently displayed on the dash board. They were issued by New York State Troopers PBA Police Surgeons Group. Not to my surprise, this was the only vechicle that did not receive any parking ticket while all others did who parked on the same block without any permit. I researched online and found that by being a medical doctor of any specialty and paying the annual due of $350, you will receive a placard, a photo ID and a badge customized for you and your vehicle. That's a drop in the bucket if you make six figures annually, right? By the way, the NYSTPBA does not check if your license plate is legit so you can use it on any vehicle. What a sweet deal.

According to the agreement that all eligible members must abide by, it states that "The ID card and placard will not be used to violate or abuse any municipal, vehicle & traffic laws, or penal laws." (quoted from http://www.pbadoctors.com/uploads/Surgeon_Application.pdf) I am not saying this medical doctor has broken any law since no one knows if he/she was dealing with real medical emergency, but I do want to share this with everyone here and let you decide for yourself.

If you or someone you know is a medical doctor and you despearately need a placard to park your car in the city, give this a try.

Gee, they're on "Official Business" quite a bit over here, along with the Court Officers. They can't be bothered to pay the meter.

This driver uses an NYC Council car for non-official business (picking up her son at the Boys Club in the East Village), and in the process parks illegally at hydrants and in No Parking Anytime zones. She has two expired placards in her windshield, as documented by the attached photos.

After reading today's New York Post article on permit abuse, I returned to this site after several months. I watched two ladies of a certain age (one in a nice fur coat) get out of a Subaru on Vestry Street, and walk in around the corner to the 92Y Tribeca. I did a little detective work of my own: they checked in for a 1 pm literature class, and got comfy in the cafe with cups of tea while waiting. This sort of abuse is mind-numbing and Governor Paterson ought to crack down on his Judicial Branch permits the same way that Mayor Bloomberg has on the NYPD. Going to a literature class with a NYS Judicial Branch permit just isn't kosher in 2009—especially if you are a judge and your job is to uphold the law!

There is a parole office across the street from us. We are a construction company that has active loading docks that are in constant use through out the day, especially in the morning. These people with their "State of NY Police" placards park right in front of our garage doors causing our business to come to a stop. The nerve and total disregard is pathetic and we are outraged with the situation.

Six months later, they still park in the crosswalk, they still double and triple park, and now they even park on the sidewalk directly in front of signs that say: DANGER! DON'T PARK ON SIDEWALK AREA HOLLOW UNDERNEATH
Of course if their illegally-parked vehicles were to suddenly go crashing down into the abyss due to their illegal and negligent actions, they'd likely turn right around and sue the State of New York claiming they were required to drive their vehicles to work and were merely using [illegal] parking permits issued by their union!

well once again parking at the fire hydrants on my block. two busy to find a legal spot or maybe not block the hydrant 100%.

Parked in front of the Bowery Residents Committee on Lafayette in a no-parking zone, this permit could be made on just about any off-the-shelf color laser printer. The "not valid for tolls" notation is an additionally charming touch.

This car has been parked on John Street between William and Gold in Lower Manhattan for the past 48 hours now in a clearly marked "No Standing Zone."

There is no official police business that this person could be on for the past 48 hours. In fact, the NY State Executive Branch (Spitzer's office) has been contacted and if anyone else needs the email of his office to contact, just leave a comment requesting it and it'll be posted here.

In a previous post - http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/2176 - I noted how this exact same car enjoys parking in the intersection. Other prison guards enjoy sidewalk and double parking around the Bayview correctional facility, and today we've ratcheted up the special privileges another step: parking official state vehicles right in the crosswalk, over the curb. What will these clever folks think of next? M14 and M23 buses stop right nearby, and these buses are apparently good enough for the executives at InterActiveCorp down the street. Those families coming to visit their loved ones in prison; those folks going to Chelsea Piers across West Street; and those employees of Bermuda limousine directly across West 20th street are constantly inconvenienced by these über-entitled prison guards and staff who daily park with impunity. If the guards were not entitled to violate City parking regulations, the State would have ample places to park its vehicles necessary for prisoner transport. Warden, you've got a mission to take corrective action. This isn't rural Hamilton County in the Adirondacks -- it's a densely-populated city whose residents ought to be able to walk on their sidewalks.

This driver blocks two sidewalks everytime he parks. Apparently his official state business is done at his home on the lower east side. He parks here every night when he is in town and every weekend.

State police badge. Parked on Broadway between 112th and 113th street, in front of the M104 bus stop.

Never puts anything in the meters on e.4th street. Parked here all the time. I don't know if its a real tag. There was no emergency.

That's one of the most ridiculous attempts at impersonating a police officer I've seen, and somehow it passes muster???

I noticed this SUV because a traffic patrol person pulled over and saw the police card on the dash then drove off.
