Parks illegally under No Standing Anytime sign, next to school, 2 malls and between 2 merging streets.

Arguably racketeering with the 110th to break law and not get summons.

Way to go! NY's finest.

Another ethically challenged police officer who thinks that No Parking Anytime doesn't include those who can abuse their authority.

This is perpetrated in a high traffic area where 2 roads merge, students walk to school (adjacent to High school facility), across the street from Queen's Center Mall Annex Parking facility and between 2 high traffic malls.

This vehicle is parked in a no parking zone. One Monday morning, this sign came up that was once prime parking on the street. Since then, this grey Chevrolet has been parking there several nights per week.

Parking in a crosswalk!

But wait, there's more!

You'll also receive, at no extra charge, parking on the sidewalk too!

Now what would you pay?!

$230? $115?

Nothing! Because you're above the law!

(Hurry, this is a limited time offer. Sorry, not available to "ordinary citizens".)

Virginia parks 2 months, switches agencies 3 times

34 vestry st, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Thu, Sep 27 2007

Main_post_4123

First noticed this car with Virginia plates on Vestry Street two months ago, when it displayed a Court Officer permit. Its tags expired, we called the First Precinct in early August to asked if it was an abandoned vehicle or potential threat as it was parked so close to the Holland Tunnel and hadn't been moved for a week. The First Precinct didn't respond, so we phoned the State Courts number listed on the permit, and were told this plate wasn't registered to that permit. So we followed the story: The car then disappeared. It reappeared a few days later with new Virginia tags. Then in early September it displayed a new NYPD permit. Then recently it switched to the present NYPD permit.
An honest law enforcement officer for the State or City of New York obeys state DMV regulations that require you to register your car in the state of residence. NJ, CT or even PA we might understand, but Virginia really doesn't cut the mustard. However, given that a gentleman from 34 Vestry Street once ran out the door when we were taking photos of this car to ask if everything was "all right" we have to wonder if this car is actually registered to a full-time local law enforcement officer. The PBA card was recently added as well. This just doesn't add up; top law-enforcement officials on official business have no need to display PBA cards. Fake permit holders, however, are notorious for doing so; just ask a cop or traffic agent about this. Moreover, we all know there are many vehicles in New York City registered in other states—especially Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina—because it's particularly easy to register cars there and save big bucks on insurance. A nearby landlord told me that this particular block is notorious for fake permits and extended parking. So is this vehicle parked day after day on legitimate law-enforcement business or not?

Main_post_3963 Ribbon_hazard

Once again the NYPD is parking infront of the fire Hydrant on the end of my block to go and see a movie. I am happy that they get time to enjoy a movie and should. But don't park where their fellow cops ticket anyone else that is even 2 inches closer than the 15 feet limit. Always a double standard.

"Official" NYPD Business vs. Fire Hydrant

254 Seaman Ave, Manhattan. Observed by BronxTeacher on Fri, Mar 30 2007

Main_post_1673 Ribbon_hazard

[Editor's note: the permit does not appear to be invalid, although no permit allows for hydrant parking except in emergencies.]

This car, a white Honda Accord, spent several hours Friday evening parked about 1 foot from a fire hydrant in front of my building. I'm a high school teacher in the Bronx, constantly telling my students that they HAVE to speak up when an injustice is being done, no matter how small... I guess this is a way of practicing what I preach. I also reported this to 311.

They call that a bike lane?

Adams St., Brooklyn. Observed by bikehoustonst on Thu, Mar 29 2007

I don't believe I've ever seen this bike lane in downtown Brooklyn free of parked vehicles. It's not a bike lane - it's a reserved parking zone for permitees. Plus, this car is within 15' of a fire hydrant! Two violations for the price of one! And see the cyclist in the road?

NYPD @ Hydrant, Outside SEZ

565 prospect place, Brooklyn. Observed by bk on Thu, Mar 29 2007

Main_post_1604 Ribbon_hazard

This time there's a different car with an NYPD permit at the hydrant in front of 565 Prospect Pl. The officer (I assume) parked about 3 feet from the hydrant, and was obviously attempting to present as little obstruction as possible. However, the car is still parked illegally. The city really needs to designate more spots for NYPD and FDNY. If we, the civilians have to work harder to find a spot, so be it. Despite what some "contributors" to this site may think, NYPD and FDNY provide indispensable service to this city, and they risk their lives doing it. That said, the lack of spots should not by any means make this parking job "less" of a violation. This hydrant sits in front of an 11-story apartment complex that contains hundreds of units.

So, feedback time folks -- is parking all day at a hydrant in a Self-Enforcement Zone okay or not?

Also, it (and several others) are parked at a No Standing 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. zone. Picture was taken at 6:23 p.m. True, it's in front of a detective bureau. But I'm assuming that sign is there for a reason.

Uncivil Servant Ticketed!

Central Park and 96th Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sat, Nov 18 2006

Main_post_666 Ribbon_hazard

Something you don't see everyday--an abusive placard holder getting a ticket. But there's a twist: this is a Park & Recreation Department employee ticketing a guy with MD plates and a police surgeon placard who has parked on the basketball courts at the 96th Street Recreation Center in Central Park. The Parks guys like to protect these parking spots for themselves!

While there is a sign up that says "no ball playing," in fact this is a regulation size basketball court with nets and everything that Parks employees apparently have converted to a parking lot. For that reason I call this violation "parked on a sidewalk," because of the parking on a basketball court, which is intended for pedestrians. Here's a link to a discussion of this problem that shows the full scene: http://www.streetsblog.org/2006/09/29/central-parking-lot/
