A frequent hydrant parker (again)
55 Nevins St., Brooklyn. Observed by Salguod on Tue, Apr 03 2007
Yes, it's clear from the last time I posted it that it's not a POV, but what's it doing in front of the hydrant?
NYPD blocking Bike lane
Centre St and Chambers st., Manhattan. Observed by bkbicyclist on Fri, Mar 30 2007
More NYPD blocking the Centre st. Bike Lane. Hard to read the NYPD permit number with clibing on top of the vehicle.
"Official" NYPD Business vs. Fire Hydrant
254 Seaman Ave, Manhattan. Observed by BronxTeacher on Fri, Mar 30 2007
[Editor's note: the permit does not appear to be invalid, although no permit allows for hydrant parking except in emergencies.]
This car, a white Honda Accord, spent several hours Friday evening parked about 1 foot from a fire hydrant in front of my building. I'm a high school teacher in the Bronx, constantly telling my students that they HAVE to speak up when an injustice is being done, no matter how small... I guess this is a way of practicing what I preach. I also reported this to 311.
They call that a bike lane?
Adams St., Brooklyn. Observed by bikehoustonst on Thu, Mar 29 2007
I don't believe I've ever seen this bike lane in downtown Brooklyn free of parked vehicles. It's not a bike lane - it's a reserved parking zone for permitees. Plus, this car is within 15' of a fire hydrant! Two violations for the price of one! And see the cyclist in the road?
NYPD @ Hydrant, Outside SEZ
565 prospect place, Brooklyn. Observed by bk on Thu, Mar 29 2007
This time there's a different car with an NYPD permit at the hydrant in front of 565 Prospect Pl. The officer (I assume) parked about 3 feet from the hydrant, and was obviously attempting to present as little obstruction as possible. However, the car is still parked illegally. The city really needs to designate more spots for NYPD and FDNY. If we, the civilians have to work harder to find a spot, so be it. Despite what some "contributors" to this site may think, NYPD and FDNY provide indispensable service to this city, and they risk their lives doing it. That said, the lack of spots should not by any means make this parking job "less" of a violation. This hydrant sits in front of an 11-story apartment complex that contains hundreds of units.
Wrong way and Side walk.
Peck Slip and Water Street, Manhattan. Observed by nyspinnman on Tue, Mar 27 2007
This cop's car has been here for weeks. Parked on the side walk and facing the wrong way on a one way street. Talking to the DOT brought a "call the precinct".

Cop parks by hydrant

On Delancey near Pitt Street, private car left parked by the fire hydrant. Would have cost me and you $65 for the same pleasure.
Parking in No Standing

More parking in no standing zone

Hydrant Parking in SEZ
Nevins St. and Schermerhorn St., Brooklyn. Observed by Salguod on Fri, Mar 23 2007
So, feedback time folks -- is parking all day at a hydrant in a Self-Enforcement Zone okay or not?
Also, it (and several others) are parked at a No Standing 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. zone. Picture was taken at 6:23 p.m. True, it's in front of a detective bureau. But I'm assuming that sign is there for a reason.
Serial Abuser
68-63 108th Street, Queens. Observed by urbusted on Mon, Jan 22 2007
This one has his own private parking space at the bus stop. Also likes the fire hydrant and crosswalk when it snows
This vehicle has been on official business since last night!

Bus Stop? What Bus stop?
Chambers and Broadway, Manhattan. Observed by smeeglereegle on Wed, Mar 07 2007
Car was parked in bus lane. When asked, a woman who had been waiting for the bus for 20 minutes said that the car had been parked there at least as long as she had been waiting.
Uncivil Servant Ticketed!
Central Park and 96th Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sat, Nov 18 2006
Something you don't see everyday--an abusive placard holder getting a ticket. But there's a twist: this is a Park & Recreation Department employee ticketing a guy with MD plates and a police surgeon placard who has parked on the basketball courts at the 96th Street Recreation Center in Central Park. The Parks guys like to protect these parking spots for themselves!
While there is a sign up that says "no ball playing," in fact this is a regulation size basketball court with nets and everything that Parks employees apparently have converted to a parking lot. For that reason I call this violation "parked on a sidewalk," because of the parking on a basketball court, which is intended for pedestrians. Here's a link to a discussion of this problem that shows the full scene: http://www.streetsblog.org/2006/09/29/central-parking-lot/
