Fake FDNY placard

Main_6650 Ribbon_fake

The owner of this car with Jersey plates supposedly works at Engine 54 in Midtown. Why does he think that this entitles him to park illegally on 1st Ave near Stuy Town?

Placard looks very fake. At the bottom, it says "Stephen J Cassidy", who is the current UFA president.

Sign says No Parking 7AM-6PM

Expired UFA placard, but not towed by TEA

West 25th st and 7th avenue, Manhattan. Observed by lawandorder on Thu, Mar 06 2008

Main_6572 Ribbon_expired

UFA placards, are of course, illegal. This one is expired too.

An NYPD tow truck and an additional TEA agent were here when I was taking this picture, but they did not tow this car. They towed the one next to it -- one that did not have a placard.

Looks like some re-training is in order.

Park Slope Repeat Offender

4th Street and 6th Avenue, Brooklyn. Observed by ParkSlope on Fri, Feb 29 2008

Main_6481 Ribbon_expired

This "Active Firefighter" has parked illegally at this fire hydrant (see far right of photo - it's about 7 feet from his front bumper) on several occasions, but this was the first time I had a camera handy.

For good measure, he also compounded his illegal parking by being several inches on the curb, and he was kind enough to park in the car behind him by allowing only a half-inch or so of space between the bumpers.

Beemer busted with UFA permit

Looks like that Uniformed Firefighters Permit is not a Get Out of Jail Free card after all. By the way, license plates are required on the front and rear of all vehicles in New York State, even if you are one of the Bravest and own a BMW. Sorry that even you have to pay the meter like normal folk. And by the way: this parking space is nowhere near a fire house.

soho

This "active firefighters" sense of entitlement continues to develop unabated. This repeat offender seems to feel this a "special" parking spot for "active fiirefighters" out and about in Soho. Again no active fires and the nearest fire station is a hike.

No firehouse here, although there is one down the block, with loads of illegal parking there today (double-parking, parking in fire zones and in front of hydrants - real classy).

UFA Blocking a crosswalk

Duane St and Church St., Manhattan. Observed by efficient streets on Thu, Nov 29 2007

Pedestraisn have to navigate cars ont he sidewalk here, everyday. I'm not sure whether a wheelchair could get through. And, of course, there is a pay lot right there.

The firefighters ought to have first dibs on all the legal parking spaces on this small half-block, and should be prevented from parking on the sidewalk or in the bike lane opposite the scene pictured in the photo.

FDNY parks Jaguar in No Standing Zone

273 lafayette st, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Thu, Nov 01 2007

Main_4813 Ribbon_invalid

B, D, F, N, R, V, W and 6 trains all stop within two blocks of your firehouse. This isn't tough-to-reach outer Brooklyn or Queens; it's a central location in downtown Manhattan. So you park your Jaguar with an FDNY Union permit two feet from a bus stop in a No Standing zone.

And what do the taxpayers think of your behavior? Shameless. Your Jag sticks out like a sore thumb, an insult to law-abiding citizens. Last week a few spaces down from this firehouse, three fire marshals displayed new union permits that say POLICE in big three-inch letters on the front. Absolutely shameless, and an insult to law enforcement. Other uniformed services take the subway, and sure don't use a permit in their Jaguars. Up Lafayette at Great Jones, you'll also note a Jag with FDNY permit from time to time. If you've got it, flaunt it, right?

Five hours later, this Jag was still there. Proof that some bad apples spoil the crate, or that a few flagrant violators of permit parking should lead to total abolition of permit parking?

Firefighters in Fire Zone

West 77th St. and Amsterdam, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Mon, Sep 10 2007

The point of the fire zone is to give fire vehicles clearance . . . not create extra parking for private vehicles of firefighters. There are space on the north side of the street set aside for that. These vehicles, all parked with Uniformed firefighters' Association placards, are creating a serious hazard for bicyclists and motor vehicles by blocking the line of sight of traffic emerging from the Hertz garage. Fuller explanation here:

Abuse of FDNY Medical Center only permits #2

253 Lafayette St., Manhattan. Observed by fresh on Thu, Mar 15 2007

Main_961 Ribbon_invalid

Ladder 20 firefighters—despite having a garage AND parking lot—frequently double- and triple-park in front of, across from, and north of their firehouse at 253 Lafayette Street. Problem is most private vehicles have not got the necessary FDNY medical center permits to park here. Traffic on this block is frequently congested due to this consistent abuse.

"Uniformed Firefighter" Out For A Jog, Abuses UFA Permit

Central Park and 86th Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sat, Nov 18 2006

Main_669 Ribbon_invalid

This guy parks on the bridle path in Central Park using a "Uniformed Firefighters Association" placard. But he's not here to fight fires--he's just come to the park to get a little exercise, like the rest of us. That's OK with me, but why can't he just walk, jog or bike to the park like the rest of us? What entitles him to use Central Park as a "central perk" of public employment? Here's the video:
