Totally Bogus Uniformed Firefighter Association (UFA)
70th St. and Ridge Blvd, Brooklyn. Observed by Buttle on Wed, May 11 2011
No permit number, no plate number on placard, not FDNY, the UFA's placard entitles them to nothing under ANY circumstances - and - even if they were - illegally parked. Yet 3 different enforcement agencies - Sanitation, parking enforcement, and regular NYPD ignore it.

Chronic serial scofflaw
6720 ridge blvd, brooklyn ny, Brooklyn. Observed by WormsAreFunny on Sun, May 08 2011
At least two dozen complaints have been filed against this jerk by people in the neighbor, both with 311 and the 68th Pct. He's also been reported here once before.
This is a No Standing Anytime zone for a good reason: it's a dangerous intersection with a blind curve a block away. When some arrogant idiot parks here you have to pull your car halfway out into the intersection to see cross traffic, which results in several accidents every year.
He's been parked in this space for almost 24 hours and it's almost certain that he'll leave his car parked there for tomorrow's alternate side cleaning because he usually does.
I noticed that this neighborhood is over-represented by illegal parking by permit vehicles.
[Moderator's Note: this car is displaying a UFOA (union) parking permit, which is not valid for use on NYC streets]

Uniformed Firefighter Association (UFA) parking placard abuse
Ovington and Ridge Blvd, Brooklyn. Observed by Buttle on Wed, Apr 20 2011
FDNY is apparently jealous of the NYPD's illegal use of this space, as they are starting to encroach.
The placard says the user of the vehicle is an "active firefighter" on "official UFA business." Apparently that "official" business was overnight, as I first saw the vehicle parked there late the previous evening.
Chronic illegal parking in No Standing Anytime zone
Ridge Blvd and Senator Street, Brooklyn. Observed by WormsAreFunny on Thu, Mar 31 2011
The intersection at Ridge Blvd & Senator St in Brooklyn is a dangerous one because Ridge doglegs around a blind curve so drivers on the cross street don't have much time to see approaching traffic. As a result, years ago DOT created a No Standing Anytime zone on the corner so cars and bicyclists don't have to pull half way out into the intersection to scan for cross traffic. There have been several accidents in this intersection because of illegal parking in that spot.
This jerk has claimed both this No Standing Anytime zone and the one at Ridge Blvd and 67th St as his personal parking spot. It's been going on for well over a year. He's so arrogant that he'll leave his car parked there for days, not even moving it for street cleaning.
My neighbors and I have filed numerous complaints with 311 and the 68th Pct but he continues to abuse his permit, and cops continue to give him a pass because of that dashboard permit.
Dirty Five-Two Gives UFA Free Pass - Makes Citizens Walk in Traffic to Get to Park
reservoir oval east and holt place, Bronx. Observed by norwoodcitizen on Sat, Nov 13 2010
The Dirty Five-Two is at it again!
They'll look the other way while somebody using a UFA placard forces everybody going to the park to walk in the street with traffic.
This location has been brought to their attention time and time again. Every time the community makes a big push, they'll finally clear it for a few months, and then they start giving all the dirty cops, fire fighters, and other wannabes a free pass to put the lives of everyday citizens at risk again.
This has to stop!
There is no way any reasonable person would believe that the officers are not passing over this location, after DOT has marked it out so clearly with two bright red NO STANDING ANYTIME signs, and then reinforced it with absolutely obvious hatching on the pavement.
This vehicle was parked in this same location before. Both times, it has been parked for extended periods of time. Both times it was submitted to 311. Yet the Dirty Five-Two is still letting this vehicle with a UFA placard break the law. And everybody else is forced out into traffic, while walking their dogs, pushing their strollers, etc.
Here's a rundown of some of the violations that we've documented AT THIS ONE, EXACT LOCATION, on uncivilservants.
(This is far from a complete list of the vehicles the Dirty Five-Two has allowed to violate our rights!)

Parking on West 77th Street
77th St and Amsterdam, Manhattan. Observed by uwsdad on Wed, Oct 06 2010
I found the site Uncivil Servants and was happy to see that someone was doing something about the dangerous situation of firefighters parking on the sidewalk. Then I scrolled through the site and found lots of postings for the same block from 2007. I guess the firefighters are not going to be cowed by a public shaming. It will take until someone gets hurt (maybe a little kid on a bicycle) for the media to take note.

FDNY Parks on Sidewalk -- Save you from burning house, but run you over on sidewalk?
786 Union Street, Brooklyn. Observed by jooltman on Thu, Oct 29 2009
This one just has a union permit. Is that even a legal dash permit?
The employees of Fire Squad Co. 1 often park on the sidewalk near the fire house. This is ironic because a) there is a half block of reserved street parking for their private vehicles directly across from the fire house b) there is a public parking garage next door in case the free spots are taken and c) by parking (and driving!) on the sidewalk, they endanger the very citizens they are sworn to protect. Cars coming in and out of the garage can't see pedestrians because of personal FDNY cars on sidewalk. Ridiculous! 9/29/09 9:30 a.m.
