They told me that they have a pass so take it up with the government. LoL Anarchy. Oh could that be their garbage/discarded athletic drink on the street? - Illegal parking next to school, 2 malls and in midst of merging traffic.

Arrogance, selfishness, callous disregard for public safety. Recipe for an injured pedestrian or motorist.

Had some free time to kill - no clients to transport - yeah - time to break law and get some shopping done! It's a long way from Glen Cove - and the 110th is easy - so why waste a golden opportunity.

[moderator's note: Permit issued to SCO Family Services, 1 Alexander Place, Glen Cove, NY 11542

On sidewalk and blocking ramp

It says right on this guy's permit that it is valid for No Standing zones, No Parking Anytime, and meters. I can't seem to find anything indicating that it is ok to park on the sidewalk, blocking the ramp to the curb. Someone in a wheelchair would have found this most unfortunate. It is also interesting that this is right next to BAM around evening showtime- I bet he was seeing a show.

Car parked here all day

90-20 56th Avenue, Queens. Observed by hiyall on Wed, Jan 23 2008

This auto parked illegally all day. Photos taken 7pm which is outside the time that placard is authorized for and was parked for more than double the 3 hours authorized. The driver returned with packages from the nearby mall that she deposited in the trunk of the car.

Not For Teacher

2nd Avenue and East 14th St, Manhattan. Observed by lawandorder on Wed, Jan 16 2008

This person's DOE permit does not allow for parking in "No Parking Anytime" zones, but their car is parked in one anyway.

The NYPD badge in the windshield is a nice touch, and probably serves as a totem to ward off Traffic Enforcement Agents. This is a very typical practice amongst uncivil servants, but it doesn't hold any legal water.

I give this driver an F in Reading, and a C for effort.

HRA: U.S. Flag+Detectives' Asso. card=free parking

12 pell st, Manhattan. Observed by IamEntitled on Sun, Nov 04 2007

On Pell Street across from Joe's Shanghai, a fabulous free parking space for Sunday Chinatown shopping. This permit strictly notes a 3 HOUR LIMIT, and the permitholder has cleverly covered up the other restrictions with a Detectives' Endowment Association card. Does HRA tell its employees to obscure their permits in such manner? Surely an honest worker on agency business (on a Sunday) would have no need to do such a thing. Combined with the American flag sticker on the windshield, this driver is just screaming "I am entitled". We all know those association cards—as chronicled elsewhere—can be easily purchased. (I remember how retired detectives used to give them out at the office at Christmas time.) Note the sentence: "Revocation will occur if the permit is misused." Time to revoke?

New Baby and Illegal Parkers

On the day my son was born at Long Island College Hospital there were about a dozen cars with DOT permits parked on the sidewalk just outside the hospital. The cars blocked access to a small park.

Standards/Appeals Candy Store Run

Eighth Ave. and West 53rd Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sun, Dec 17 2006

This DOT placard holder figures that he can park in the bike lane next to the hydrant without risking a ticket for blocking the hydrant. But in fact, he's creating two safety hazards (for bicyclists as well as nearby residents) instead of one.

He waddled out of the candy shop as I was photo'ing his placard. When I questioned his parking he argued in defense that he was not abusing his placard, because the placard does not entitle him to park where he was (thanks for the admission!). So why is it on your dash, buddy--don't you see the fine print at the bottom stating it is a "felony" to misuse the permit?
