You Can Borrow My Permit . . . Just Make Sure to Park Illegally
Central Park West and West 61st Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Fri, Feb 23 2007
This permit entitles the holder to park a car with plates C**-***9. However the owner (or someone else) is using the permit to park a different vehicle, with plates A**-***9. Putting this mismatch aside, the more immediate problem (especially if you are a wheelchair user) is the parking in the crosswalk that completely blocks the curb cut.
NYPD Transit Bureau (Who Else?) Blocking Bus Stop
Central Park West and 63rd Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Thu, Jan 18 2007
Another example of illegal "overflow" parking by NYPD placard holders near the Columbus Circle NYPD parking lot. Numerous empty parking spaces lie to the south, but those are reserved for the "top brass." So this fellow (ironically, with an NYPD Transit Bureau placard) parks in the bus stop, forcing bus patrons to embark and disembark in the middle of the street instead of at the curb (and creating an additional hazard for bicyclists in the bike lane). While this NYPD placard holder parks his personal vehicle illegally with impunity, the placard-less chump in the beige sedan behind him got a ticket.
Invented Parking
Central Park West and 62nd Street, Manhattan. Observed by BicyclesOnly on Wed, Jan 24 2007
Although there are several empty perpendicular parking spaces reserved for other NYPD placard holders nearby, this guy apparently is not allowed to park in them. So he decided to extend the perpendicular parking scheme beyond the portion of the street that is marked for it, by parking half on the street, half on the sidewalk. I guess hopping the curb is one reason to drive an SUV in the city . . .

Sidewalk Scofflaw Cop
East 66th St and Third Ave, Manhattan. Observed by Dick Tracy on Mon, Aug 14 2006
Police officer parked on the sidewalk in a No Standing Anytime zone.
Like the car, this cop is not on the level.
Hydrant Hog Cop at Time of Fire Alarm
1160 Third Ave 10021, Manhattan. Observed by Dick Tracy on Sun, Jan 07 2007
Police officer private vehicle blocking free access to fire hydrant at the time of an alarm. Perhaps he was confused and thought the law was 15 inches rather than 15 feet.
This officer put citizens and Fireman at risk,
NY's finest, hardly. This above the law attitude by the very people assigned to uphold the law is absurd and cannot be tolerated. His car should have been towed and scrapped.
