They could do better than this but considering that I got three parking tickets (consecutive days) for being 13 feet 8 inches away from a hydrant by the petty NYPD, I think this is fair.

You're right Bryan, so why don't you go and tell that to the NYPD, who seem to have no regard for the law.

I THINK ALL PARKING LAWS SHOULD BE ENFORCED, NO EXCEPTIONS OF ANY KIND, ALL DOUBLE PARKED VEHICLES THAT ARE A RESULT OF ALTERNATE SIDE OF STREET PARKING SHOULD BE TICKETED AND TOWED.

IF POLICE CANT PARK AND BREAK THE LAW NEITHER SHOULD THE PUBLIC.

i agree with the above statement...since the police must get paid unfairly in NYC at top pay 59,500, and have the benifit of parking in some places the public can not, lets take that perk away from them.
but in respose to this we (the NYPD) should STRICKTLY ENFORCE ALL PARKING RULES. so when you run into the store to get that cup of coffee and park 5 feet from a hydrant for 1 min you will now get a 115 dollar fine, which adds up to and expense cup of coffee if i must say. Make sure when you come out of the store a min later and see the officer writing the ticket to explain to the officer how little he makes and how you make what he makes in a year in an hour, then tell him how this summons is nothing because you make so much in compaired to his peanuts.

if we ever did enforcement like this we would write 100 summons a day. No kidding.

playing with fire is fun

#11 ... go for it. I would love to see you guys ticket people who double park or park illegally. You clearly do not understand the point of this site. It is not a site attacking the NYPD. It is a site pointing out illegal parking that is NOT being enforced. So yeah, go for it. I will cheer you on as you ticket rich people breaking the law by parking illegally. Just make sure you ticket everyone who does so as opposed to what happens now, where you ignore cars w/ permits, even though they are breaking the law. Which, I might add, is your job to enforce.

cops and city officials have a right to park where the public can not period. Everyone knows that city officials get paid much less then it is economiclly possible to live in this city. And there is a thing called Public officers law which requires city employees to live in the five boros and some surrounding counties.
what i suggest to you private citizens is to lobby to change this law and let city employees live out of state. This will slove the parking problem. 70% of city employees will promptly move out of the state and take their cars with them. the only time you will see parking "abuses" as you call them, is when they are acutally at work...which is 100% legal because it is what the Parking permits are intended to be used for (they are infact issued by the CITY) REMEMBER your gripe is with parking while NOT at work, around the city, which is the reason for this site. TRUST ME CITY WORKERs only live here because they HAVE TO =(

Hoping i can leave for a better jurisdiction and will do so ASAP.

#13, It's definitely economically possible to live in this city on a civil servant's salary. You just might have to live next door to non-white people. Oh the horror!

And no, the parking problem is not just city employees parking when they're off-duty. It's primarly commuter parking. If the commuters are driving from farther away that won't solve anything.

Now, having had you say all of the above, it's still illegal to park at a hydrant
