A frequent hydrant parker (again)

Observed by Salguod on Tue, Apr 03 2007

Yes, it's clear from the last time I posted it that it's not a POV, but what's it doing in front of the hydrant?

Why do the police insist on putting "OUR LIVES IN JEPORDY" by blocking fire hydrants? The one in front of my home was blocked for months. I tired of trying to stop the cop! The local pd would just keep on going. I went to the top, the mayors office and the commish. they have web sites. It stopped the cop from putting our lives in jepordy! Lets ALL email the mayor and his commish. LMAO

You have got to pick better fights. While this dept car is within 15 feet of the hydrant it definately isn't in front of it as is shown in many other posts. The position of this vehicle will not hamper fire fighting operations and their ability to connect to this hydrant.

This has come up numerous times before -- the firefighters (or convincing firefighter-sounding posters) have passionately defended the 15' rule.

I just know what the rule is, and I'm assuming that those who don't have permits have to march to its tune (even at non-functioning pumps) for a reason (and that reason is not to leave parking spaces for those with permits :-). If the rule is stupid, we should change the rule.

I'm not an expert on hydrant use, but I don't think the detectives who park dept or personal cars at that hydrant every day are either. Even if we both think we know better than DOT or the fire department, there are obvious problems with hiring one set of expert city workers to advise on policy for hydrants, no standing, no stopping, etc. while another set of non-expert city workers simply ignores that policy.

I've taken a lot of pictures on here, and I'm personally more concerned about some of them than others. But overall, my personal central complaint is that this is a terrible and stupid way to conduct policy, and it makes the permit abusers look like scofflaws, which undermines their credibility, which not only hurts them personally but makes them less effective in the community.

You don't see me posting any "our lives are in danger" rhetoric and wringing my hands about individual instances of parking. Individually, almost any instance of parking here can at least hypothetically be excused, explained or minimized. It's primarily in the aggregate that it rises to the level that makes me concerned enought to, say, start taking pictures and post them to a website.

"CONFIRMED"

This is within a SEZ and nothing will be done about this. Please feel free to post the pictures of the same car on the same hydrant next week.

#8 In an SEZ or not. The bottom line is that it's a violation.

Regardless of anything being done or not. It should be documented.

The only veh's allowed at a hydrant are a mail truck and a fire truck, no matter what the CO says.
