Get the permit number and the precinct and call the Integrity officer (usually a Lt.) He will gladly explaint to this officer what he is not to do with his parking permit.
I had a new officer visiting his girl friend for overnighters and he was sorry when his wife found out.
I've contacted 311, the local precinct and the precinct that the permit is from. All of which give very unpromising responses.
The problem with this picture is that I, a civilian should not have to teach an officer what not to do with his permit. He's the cop! He should know this law before he's given a badge. Our tax dollars are supposed to be training the police to protect us, not giving them free will to endanger our lives.

"Verde" Your Tax Dollars are supposed to do alot of things. Enough with the melodramatics the only ones whos lives are endangered are the cops that wear the uniform. Parking in front of the hydrant is wrong granted, but believe me the Police do not need any lessons from civilians.
So if there had been a fire in the nearby buildings and the FD could not get a water supply, it's okay? I was simply replying to #1 telling me it's my job to contact the IO.
I understand that the police put there lives on the line, but as stated there is no need to risk others.
I could post at least one violator per day just from what I casually observe, but I will only post "safety risks". Yeah NYPD don't get paid enough. They can have the free parking for all I care, but when there is blatant disregard for public safety there is no excuse.
For anyone who cares to defend a violator I will not respond to anything but proven cases where the violator was in the right. If you can give one valid reason than fine. Otherwise your comments will go unnoticed.

that is why I park legally I don't have anything that says NYPD anywhere on my car. If I wittness anyone getting robbed or any other crime committed while I am off duty I will not intervine. I will simple do what our rules and regulations require call 911 and be a good wittness. I never parked on a hydrant but living in brooklyn and double parking on occasion to get bread will never happen again. It is an even trade off I am only a cop for 8 hours, I park legal and the citizens of NY will lose a good cop who always considered himself a cop for 24hrs.

#7 I'm pretty sure as #5 said rule and regs. says you are to report it, and be a witness. What good is looking the other way? It's attitudes like this that make people look down on the NYPD. I'm so glad I work for a department that people respect and trust. What's NYPD's mantra again? CPR? Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect? Ha! You people all sound like a bunch of children.
This site is great! The people of NYC should stand up for what is right. Maybe NY should do what all PDs in California have done. Build, or pay for private parking.
Also several other comments talk about how unsafe this site is. Come guys, the cars are parked illegally on public property with the credentials on the dash. It stands out because of it being illegal, and you put a calling card on the dash! Try parking where it is legal and nobody will be the wiser.

#8: There is a lot wrong with the NYPD. The parking situation is just what's most visible. Even other cops trying to do their job don't know what goes on sometimes. They're shocked when I tell them, including some on here who have said so.
They've been like this for so long it has become institutionalized. Their arrogance knows no bounds when you point out they aren't always the finest and you have the facts.
As you see from some of the responses on here.....

I cleary stated offduty I will not go above and beyond because there are to many cop bashers. During work I am the best cop In town and I will never disregard my duties when I am not working, I will call 911. Clearly read this site there are many cop haters the parking is just an excuse. Now I can understand why so many cops move out to the suburbs.

TO ALL UMOS stop posting on this site let these people rant and rave all they want WE ARE THE POLICE. Let them call 311 let them call our CO's and ICO's after a few months they will realize nothing will change. I believe they get a rise at the perception that they hold something over us. By us answering them we are give credibility to this site, stop posting and stop reading and it will go away.
#11 -- while I'd also love to see some of the more obnoxious loons stop posting here, we really do appreciate getting the perspsective of all those affected, including UMOS who are critical of our efforts.
Also, if the time scope of this project were three months, I think you'd be right about not making a difference. Do you think we don't recognize that this is a deeply entrenched, institutional problem? We aren't even fully warmed up yet -- we haven't activated volunteers or promoted the site since its launch, because we're still shaking out the bugs and listening to the current participants (both pro- and anti-) to fine tune our approach.
We are systematically documenting and investigating not only the parking complaints themselves but the responses that we get. We are going to start exposing lazy and dishonest 311 responses. We are patiently and systematically figuring out exactly what the laws, regulations, contracts and policies really are (and they're a lot different than the MOS believe), and using that information to our advantage.
The fundamental long-term problem that illegal parkers -- even UMOS -- need to realize is that nobody, I mean nobody, in a position of any authority whatsoever is willing to come out and say "yes, goddamn it, it's okay for my people to block fire hydrants and park on the sidewalk whenever they please." It's a completely indefensible position. One or two complaints won't undo decades of institutionalized lawlessness, but a calm, steady, patient, well-documented approach has at least a fighting chance.

Why stop posting here when it more fun to witness them having strokes when they eventually realize that nothing will result from their whining. I log in every day and I laugh at their comments. It is even more funny when I park my car at the no standing sign and I walk away with a smile from ear to ear knowing that our C.O or ICO will never tell us to find a legal spot where a legal spot does not exist. Try finding one in and aound the 19th pct. I say let them cry and whine...it only makes for great entertainment and when I tell them where I parked today it is salt in their wounds...LOL

I too am under the belief that this site is geared towards anti-establishment entities. The idea is good one but this place has taken a wicked turn towards getting back at government representatives. Whatever happened to bicycle rights? The more I read the posts on this site the more I suspect that the administrators have a bone to pick with the NYPD/FDNY. If I were in the wrong we would see more pictures of civilians parked at hydrants instead of firemen and officers. Am I to believe that a hoodlum parked at a hydrant is not as guilty as the off duty officer. Where are the pictures of the hoodlums at the hydrant. Please do not tell me that no one has seen these young rascals blocking the pumps. It is not that they do not exist but instead I suspect that the administrators here do not believe that it will further their agenda.
That is my 2 cents.

#14 Please don't stop posting. I like the display of attitude you are showing the city. It does nothing but prove you know what is illegal when it comes to permit use. You just think you are Above the Law.
#15 "Please do not tell me that no one has seen these young rascals blocking the pumps"
I've seen plenty of non permitted cars illegally parked. The difference is they get tickets and/or towed.
Maybe it slipped your sights, but the site is a group of people brought together to show the city that there is an abuse of permits. Which nobody is willing to enforce.

I love how these people believe that they will blot out the sun with their mighty finger of justice and shade the entire world from this supposed parking tyranny. It is truly comical. From their own mouths they admit that it may take years or even decades before change comes about and yet they assume that they will prevail. LOL. Keep up the good work guys and keep posting the pictures because eventually(when pigs fly) something will be done about this great injustice.
Oh the humanity! The entertainment value of the whiney people of this site is a godsend. When there is nothing on T.V I come here to have a good chuckle. When I park my car in my SEZ in a supposedly illegal spot I have even a greater chuckle knowing that someone is lurking out there with a camera waiting to snap a picture of my vintage auto.
Thank you guys and God Bless.

Sad to see in #19's post that this is the only place the police will face disciple for only parking infractions.
Parking is the least of it. The corrupt bad attitude is institutionalized. Sad to see #19 acting as if this is the only avenue of complaint, because it is.
That's why the outpouring of complaints, long overdue, are taken as cop bashing.
Sad for America, the biggest flag wavers are usually the biggest violators.
