Another Hydrant and No Parking

Observed by verde on Tue, Apr 10 2007

Here again is yesterday's offender. This time the vehicle is parked about one foot back from a different hydrant about one block away. It is also clearly in a No Parking area. The rest of this block is no standing 4-7PM. I asked two Traffic Officers why this vehicle wasn't ticketed/towed as the rest on the block, and they claim that they don't know if he's on business or not. The admin of the site can confirm by my additional photos that there is a clear note on the dashboard stating the the owner of the vehicle is visiting a resident in the neighborhood. (As required on these private streets) Obviously no note and/or permit allows for such violations. The Traffic officer gave me the usual run around about calling 311 and filing complaints. Which I do, and have never changed the situation.

As usual I never supply personal information on the public areas of this site. So there is no need for any comments saying what I'm doing is dangerous to the police officers. What they are doing is dangerous to everyone else.

Next time they tell you to call 311, take their shield numbers and make one!

The streets in Forest Hills Gardens are privately owned and maintained and, as noted by the poster, a FHG parking permit or a note on the dash is required to park there. If the owner of this vehicle is visiting a resident then clearly he is not on official duty.

Just wait until the weekend. There could be at least 20 cars illegally parked in that area. I myself am more concerned with the ones that pose safety hazards.

Although technically most of them will be safety hazards after they leave the bars at 4AM vomiting and peeing all over the area. Then getting into their cars and driving home drunk.

Can someone fill me in on traffic enforcement in Forest Hills Gardens? Is it done by the NYPD, and if so, does the FHG association pay them? Do they set their own rules, and is it possible that they have lax rules for NYPD placards? The signs look just like regular city signs.

Forest Hills Gardens is private, but they get to have city services if they open the streets one day a year.

No parking for you, they tow like crazy.

In fact, now that I think about it, the tows tried to get nasty about pictures 15 years back and I had to set them straight.

Although FHGs has access to city services does that mean that the city can issue summonses? Not neccesarily. The streets are privately owned and maintaned. It would not be the responsibility of the city to enforce certain codes. The city can not come in to your backyard and issue you a summons for drinking a beer so can they go onto the property of FHG for the purpose of issuing a summons.

FYI-not only to the have to make the streets available to the public at least one day a year but they also have to close the streets to residents only atleast one day a year to maintain their private status.
