PSA Hummer at Pump

Observed by bratton on Sun, Apr 08 2007

This driver parks here almost every day, but sometimes moves to another restricted space half way up the block toward 1st. At least that space isn't in front of a pump.

It's a hydrant and a safety zone (stripes)

The 108 precinct has painted diagonal stripes that extend onto the sidewalk (for sidewalk parking) at the hydrant at the corner of 50th Ave and Vernon Blvd. It's bad enough to park on the hydrant, but to paint stripes (also illegal) so parking half on the street, half on the sidewalk is claimed by the precinct is typical of the arrogance. I think they painted the wheelchair curb cut also.

As far as arrogance, we were driving past the precinct front door, when a cop, jaywalking, looked right at us and stepped out in front of us, forcing us to slam on the brakes, knowing full well his buddies would pour out of the house and cuff us like the poor sap by the Midtown Tunnel who hit the 108 car because a stop sign(never reported by patrol) was missing.

Too much access is dedicated to fire pumps. This is a wasteful practice. This citizen seems to understand this and has parked in such a way that there is plenty of access to that fire pump in case the one in a million chance that it actually needs to be accessed to fight a fire occurs.

Everyone will be relieved to know that the person who owns this Hummer now parks illegally in front of a school sign just a few steps west of where this photo was taken. They had a sticker on their window that they were illegally parked, but it's gone now, and it's still illegally parked!
