NYPL vehicle always parks at the commercial muni-meter for the day and doesn't put a dime in. Crazy thing is, the permit was printed on a home printer, no decals, seals, etc. And they don't get ticketed?
I suspect that it's the official plate and not the lame permit that's doing the trick here. Still, official plates DO NOT exempt the driver from following traffic or parking rules.

Once again Salguod is WRONG. Offical plate means that the veh's owner is a government entity. All summonses issued to a government veh are automatically voided. Why on earth would the city/state pay a summons to itself? As for thinking that this summons would be tracked back to the driver/employee then I have a bridge to sell you. I equate this to me being caught by a red light camera in a sector car. Ive been caught hundreds of times by camera flashes but I have never been spoken too about it. I wonder why? Could it be becasue the summons is issued to the city and the computers then inturn void it. That being said, why would I want to summons a car with official plates?
Now you know why this car is parked here and why it does not and will never have a summons.
Sorry if the truth hurts.
:)
Once again, you respond with a possibly accurate description of the (current, corrupt) way that things work now, but fail to address what the (real, binding) law has to say on the subject.
And once again, thanks for reminding us so clearly of the rampant corruption that we are working against.

"Rampant Corruption" those are really defamatory words and as a 14 year member of the NYPD I take offense to what you consider "Rampant Corruption." In this day of Political correctness your words should be chosen a bit more carefully. Make your point without using inflamatory statements. It seems like this site is used as an outlet to bash the Police Department. I would expect comments like this from an anonymous posters but not the moderator. We may not be perfect I'll be the first to attest to that, but we are always their when you need us whether you like us or not.

You are oh so welcomed, Salguod. What you call corruption we call a contractual perk. We are different sides of a coin, you and I. The only difference is that nothing will change on my end. I will continue to park where I want to within a SEZ and all the whinning in the world will not change that. Even you know this but you choose to put up a fake facade. What you term as arrogance on my behalf I choose to call confidence. I am 100% sure that I will keep parking at that NO STANDING sign and know that no one will issue me a summons. Now if you choose to park there well then....I assure you that Id have your car towed and summonsed. It is the nature of the beast and usually the weak get devoured. Why? Cause you are not part of this thing of ours.
Have a nice day.
;)
#7: What do you call repeated disregard for the law by law enforcement officers for their personal benefit? I call it corruption. Either #5/#8 is full of it, or yes, there is rampant corruption. (Or, more likely, he is just 80% full of it *and* there is still rampant corruption.)
And #5/#8 -- we've repeatedly shown you the contract provision, which guarantees you nothing of the sort. Either provide evidence to the contrary, or drop it.

Salguod you have no concept of corruption. From day one in the academy it is drilled into our heads, what is corrupt and what is not. Everyday we come to work reminders are all around us. But not once in all my time has anyone in rank advised us that parking around our place of employment is corrupt. No one will issue another cop a ticket period. The change has to come from the top and honestly I don't forsee this happening even with all the calls to 311 or to Pct CO's and ICO's. And to paint us as corrupt is really a slap in the face to all us hard working cops, and if we had anyone standing behind us, ie. AL Sharpton we would shut down this site for comments like that, but alas we are just cops.

Oh my dear Salguod, how naive you are. Many many things remain unwritten. If I were in the wrong regarding these contractual perks then why are cops parked in supposedly illegal spots at every precinct in nyc? Perhaps there is some merit to what I say. this concept is truly eluding you my dear friend. I park where I park because there is no where to park legally within the 19th pct SEZ. I will not take mass transit for it is beneath me. I leave it for you to use. The C.O of the 19th knows the parking condition of his command and allows this. Unless the mayor builds a garage for us this will be common place till that ficticious garage is built for us. You can keep quoting written union lore to us but we all know what is unwritten and is treated as law in and around every precinct in nyc.
This is reality my young friend and I proudly say to you to absorb it and get used to it. I will continue parking where I park and nothing shall be done ...PERIOD. If you doubt my claim or boast plese feel free to check the parking status around the 19th pct next week were I have no doubt you shall return here to post that NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
#12 -- it's quite flattering to be considered "naive" and "young" at my advanced age, so thank you for the compliment.
It's also completely hilarious that you either don't have (or don't want to have) the slightest idea of what a "contract" is. Or any clue that "unwritten law" made up by police for the personal benefit of police is the same thing as "corruption."
Next, a more sensible (or more real) MOS will come along and suggest you're really one of us, trying to make MOS look bad. If so, you're doing a great job.

I don't think an official plate has to put money in the meter, it's like bringing coals to Newcastle.

God bless my parking permit. It makes this crappy job worth it. Over the course of a year I save over 8K on parking fees. I never have to feed the meter or pay a garage attendant. I bacame a cop not for the baloney about serving the public but instead for the ability to use a much treasured parking permit. Anyone who is anto parking permit is a true hater in my eyes. Do not hate the player just hate the game.
I would really hate to be you right now. LOL.

The cops must be feeling guilty because this is about NYPL. How did it get to be about them?
Hey #11, why not enlighten us on which laws the academy says cops have to obey, and which ones they can ignore. I'd like to know where the academy draws the line.

Steve I was talking about corruption. As far as laws we are held to a higher standard than normal citizens. A few bad apples parking on hydrants does not paint the entire Department as a bunch of corrupt fiends hell bent on destroying the city. I have posted this numerous times but one more time for my Friend Steve SEZ are designed to let cops and Firemen park around Precincts, this is why we are issued restricted parking permits. We the Police enforce these areas around the Pct and no cop will issue another Cop or Firemean a ticket period. Parking on a hydrant is dangerous and most cops avoid it and dont condone it but like I said a few bad apples right. Alot of people are using this site as an outlet to vent at Police Officers, which is obvious by the underlying tones in alot of these posts. Love us or hate us we are always their day or night while you are nice and cozy in your warm bed dreaming of traffic infractions.

I agree, my parking permit has saved me alot of money over the years. Thank god that the Federal government does not tax this as an asset. Wait till we get the free bridge and tunnel passes. Boy, is the public going to hate us then big time.
Jealousy is not a healthy thing.

#14. You're right. We have no idea what a contract is. Hasn't been a current contract in years. Last one (which was a 2 year binding arbitration contract in 2005) expired in 2004.
If this is such a serious corruption, call IAB. They handle corruption, which is, according to you, running rampant within the department. Maybe when they disregard your call, you can then call the feds about the rampant corruption running through the NYPD in regards to on street parking around police precincts.
In case you didn't know, this whole deal with city officials being allowed to park illegally, meaning in those areas where they are not designated, and TEA not ticketing those cars is a definite act of corruption in the system.
