A Queens neighborhood is boiling mad over a broken NYPD promise not to hog parking spots with civilian employees' cars.
Ever since four police units moved into a vacant office building in College Point last month, neighbors say, parking there has become a nightmare.
When the NYPD applied in 2005 to relocate the squads from Queens Village to the 14th Avenue building, the community board insisted on a condition -- that cops park in a lot across the street.
The NYPD purchased 220 parking spots in the lot and vowed that would be ample parking for its 200 or so employees who'd be there at any given time.
But when they finally arrived in October, cops immediately began clogging up the streets with their cars, residents say.
A spokesman acknowledged that the NYPD underestimated the number of spots it needed. He said it was looking for another lot nearby.

So now you are complaining when they are parking legally. Even thou when they use their legal placard it is still legal. To bad they are taking up spots in the neighborhood. If they parked legally with their placards you would still be complaining. Make up your mind.

College Point is kinda out of the way. If I lived there, I would welcome the Police presence! What? You have a 8x4? You can park in my driveway while I'm at work. If anything, leave your keys at the desk if I need to get into the garage or something. And again, thanks for keeping our city safe!

The NYPD failed to account for the 200 or so department vehicles associated with the tenant units, leaving a small fraction of spots for the PD personnel assigned there. Dept autos occupy the lot forcing the cops to find street parking, and with no subway lines, and an infrequent bus route, mass transit isn't really an option.

By the way, the supervision is cracking down early to prevent: crowding corners, blocking hydrants/sidewalks/driveways,double parking. Be assured, College Point, that the parking Nazis are out in full force keeping those terrible cops/detectives in line. The loss of local parking is another issue, I guess.

Sure they are Kender6. They will still park where they please. As for your first post. Subway and buses are never an issue.

I'm not starting an argument Dragon, I work in the facility in question, and have first-hand experience with the Inspector who broke my chops about my car standing in a spot while I waited for a carpool companion. They ARE being strict about the parking situation here. There simply are too many autos for the street grid to handle.

I'm not looking to start an argument either Kender6. I'm just getting sick and tired of all the people on this web site complaining about the legal placards. When they park in their neighborhoods they complain that they are taking up their spots, But when they park where they can't park and use their placard they cry about it. They need to make up their mind. Either they park in their neighborhood and take up their spots or use the placard and park where they can't park and leave the spots for them. I also can't stand the ones who complain on this site and they don't even drive. They shouldn't be saying a word it doesn't effect them.
