Private parking spot ?

Observed by citizen on Thu, Nov 05 2009

I guess all you need to do is to put a EMT jacket in your rear window and file for a EMT license plate to have a guaranteed private parking spot. This guy has done it for over a year now and has the greatest deal of the century.

This car parks here every evening in a clearly labeled "No Parking Anytime" zone and apparently never receives a ticket. He doesn't even move the car for alternate side of the street street cleaning while the rest of us are moving our cars around the block and waiting for hours to park again. The one time I asked a local 24th precinct cop about it he said that there was nothing he could do.

You are right that nothing is going to happen to him. You want to know why, Because they are the first ones to respond if anyone from the NYPD gets hurt.

Both of you have no idea what you are talking about. If they have plates that say EMT on it they are required by law to stop and assist at all accidents regardless of what they are doing. Even if they are with their wife and kids. So before you say anything you should really know what you are talking about.

How does that apply to illegal parking in a NO PARKING ZONE ?

What this guy is doing is wrong. The law is the law !

Don't pay them any mind. Dragon. They don't know what the EMTs go through every day. Some have seen more action than most beat cops. I don't care if any EMT showed up in their POV, as long as they saved a life.

What the EMT's go thru every day has nothing to do with illegal parking?

What you fail to understand is that every time one of these guys parks under false pretense (private parking spot going back and forth to an office job), it actually hurts the legitimate guys who are actually doing the work and would need a pass to do their work effectively.

It reenforces the idea that the laws of the land do not really apply to everyone and so, the public becomes less likely to listen / obey the police / EMT when they really need it.

I are NOT anti-cop, firefighter or EMS. I am against cheaters who use these passes and shields for their selfish reasons. They hurt us, and more importantly, you.

Has it occurred to you that some of these guys are really FAKES?

Fakes? Are you kidding me. Again you have no clue Citizen what you are talking about. They have to prove that they are EMT'S before they can get a license plate stating that they are one. They aren't cheaters. They deserve what they get. If he uses a spot you can't park in that leaves a spot for you. Some day you are going to need an EMT to save your life. Think about it before you blow off some more hot air.

not to mention being an EMT is totally recession proof. i should be one to be able to park anywhere in case i need to respond to emergency.

Dragonman ---
Read carefully ! You seem to be blinded by your beliefs and cannot see beyond what is being said.
Again, I am not saying that EMT's are cheats. I have never said that. What I AM saying is that there are people out there who are taking advantage of the system. Again, I am not talking about the merits of being an EMT's I am talking about illegal parking. It doesn't matter that there are more or fewer parking spots. It's about people who are "gaming the system" Why are you defending that?
Stay on topic! We are not talking about EMT's saving lives. This is a parking parking permits abuse site!

Call it what you want. It is a perk that we have. It is not abuse. I can park where ever my heart desires. You can't. If you want that privilege take the test.

For Hungtat: They are not recession proof. Learn your facts before you speak.

Maybe, just maybe, the EMT gets home rather late and ALL the spots are taken EVERY night by law-abiding citizens like yourself or others. Maybe the EMT has had a long tour. I see the ASP signage right before his veh. Hmmm, I wonder why you brought up the ASP, maybe you got a ticket and not the EMT? That just says that you have a certified and qualified lifesaver as a neighbor. Oh no! You're the illegal parker! Stay away from me! I'll wait for someone else that is going to look for a parking space to come save my life! Geeze! Give the first responders their dues! Get over your false sense of entitlement! If he can park there, why can't I??? (WHINE)

whatever ?
No real point continuing here. The law is the law and basically you guys don't really care to hear anything otherwise. I guess pushing the old lady out of the way to get a seat on a bus is OK too.
Give law-abiding citizens their dues too - we're the reason your here, remember?

I guess you don't care that he/she is out there saving lives and at times risking his/her own life but that doesn't matter as long as he/she parks according to the law. You don't get home at the times they do. You probably have a desk job working 9 to 5 and have no problem parking. Try coming home at 2 or 3 in the morning and try to find a spot. I know. I have been there. Have you? So until you walk in their shoes stop complaining.

Yes, law-abiding citizens, WE'RE the reason you're here as well! And NO, it's NEVR okay to push an old lady out of the way to get a seat. Have YOU given up YOUR seat for an old lady/man, pregant woman, disabled or have you prtended to be asleep???? I have given up my seatin ALL accounts. So get off your high-horse and deal with some things that can never be changed.

"I guess pushing the old lady out of the way to get a seat on a bus is OK too." I'm not really sure what one has anything to do with the other or what you are even talking about. You can't park there unless you have a plaque. The correct parallel would be if there were no seats on the bus and an old lady boarded, should the bus driver give up his seat so she can sit down? No because he can sit there and she cannot. End of discussion.
