We've been hearing wonderful tidings from various sources in Chinatown about Deputy Inspector Gin Yee taking a serious interest in cleaning up the parking placard mess around the 5th Precinct.
Great article in Downtown Express here:
http://www.downtownexpress.com/de_201/chinatownscommander.html
from the article:
"David Eng, who co-owns Fong Inn Too tofu shops on Mott and Division Sts., said he saw Yee confiscate a permit from what he thought was a court employee on Tuesday before ordering the car towed. 'I think he instilled fear in him,' Eng said."
Recently the fliers posted here started going under the windshield wipers of cars that did not heed the warnings, as though added proof that this was legitimate.
We recently caught up with C.O. Yee at a Chinatown Consolidated Benevolent Association meeting, where he was handed a stack of letters from the community, grateful for everything he has done.
At the meeting, he confirmed that he had asked DOT to make the "No Permit Parking Zone" signs permanent in the area. Also notice the strict enforcement of the Self Enforcement Zones, where vehicles are not allowed to park on sidewalks, hydrants, bus stops, etc.
More good news to come shortly from the 84th Precinct in Downtown Brooklyn

OMG, samething happened in the late 80's and again in the mid 90's. Chinatown was cleaned up and all permits were restricgted under penalty of towing in the Chinatown area. Guess what happened a year after the crackdown? Yep, you guessed correct. The political wind is once again blowing and the remedy will be short lived like usual. By this time next year I will be parked once more on the sidewalk near the chinese funeral home. These things come and go and one can count on that.

Ain't that the truth #3?

I wonder if any damage to a car on the sidewalk is the responsibility of the owner and not the insurance co, since it shouldn't be driven there in the first place?

I recall the same ant- permit initiative at the 5th precinct back in 1995 and a year later it all blew over and I returned to parking on the sidewalk. Just like a rancid fart, this too shall pass.
It is all cyclical.

That memo is not worth the paper it is printed on. LOL. You should frame it and put it on your wall becasue one day it will be worth something especially since the content of the memo will be disregarded in a few months.

The anonymous detractors of this site have an explanation for everything. On all the other posts they claim that the blue wall never tows it's own. Confronted with the proof they are wrong here, they tell us it's not what it appears, it will all soon blow over. Sure guys, whatever you say.
