24 Hour Reserved Spot for President of NY Press Club in Front of Soho Home

Observed by Mercer on Thu, Dec 03 2009

There is a spot reserved in front of 23 Mercer Street for NYP plates. There are no time restrictions so it is effectively a permanent spot for this Volvo that is always parked there. I'm guessing the owner lives in the building. It has been there for 5 days straight now. Ridiculous. Pay for a parking lot like the rest of us!

Can someone tell me if this web site's claims are real and if it will be able to do anything about this farce of a parking spot? If someone can tell me why a guy should have a parking spot in front of his apartment when there is a garage 100 feet away (that the rest of us have to pay for), I will back down. Otherwise, please suggest how to deal with this joke of a system?

Wait. There is a space reserved for NYP plates meaning the DOT CITY ISSUED SIGN says "No Standing Except Authorized Vehicles: NYP" and there is a vehicle with an NYP plate parked in it? This is legal parking. What's even more funny is that you took the time to call 311 to complain about someone parked illegally because you didn't think it was fair. You know I really don't argue when you guys take pictures of vehicles parked DIRECTLY on a hydrant for hours on end but some of this petty nonsense has got to go. This kind of posting should just be removed.

WillNYC. Guess we found out who's car it is. Read the post. Its not saying its illegal. Its saying why is there a spot reserved for NYP (you perhaps?) have a free parking spot in front of your home while the rest of us have to pay for our parking? I have no problem if there's an NYP spot for a place where the press is doing business, but this is stupid even by NYC standards. And I love the fact that 311 told you I made a phone call to ask about the spot. Makes you wonder about the integrity of the system.

Okay... Mercer, how do you know that the person owning the volvo lives in this building? Have you actually seen this person? While I'm no friend of the msm, I have to say that there's no merit to your claim, mercer. Besides, DOT made the signage, so you have to assume that there is some kind of news agency there. Oh, and your 311 remark? You gave will the idea you called 311. Look to the sidebar on the right. See the 311 confirmation number YOU gave? So will didn't have to call 311. Besides, 311 will NEVER give out that kind of info. Besides, NYP plates park anywhere they please, even no parking signs.
