Manhattan South 10th Precinct parks in Brooklyn??

Observed by Buttle on Wed, Dec 09 2009

No placard, just a dashboard full of police junk (vest, hat, PBA card - showing badge # 25558). It's his 3rd time in this spot, so it's not police business. No ticket though!

Thanks, buttle. You may just have given out a cop's address. Good job there, buddy.

They don't care about that MVO. All they care about is that they can't park there and he can. I know that area and there is no reason why that sign is there.

All I can think of is that this particular stretch of road is at an intersection and the signage was put there to keep it clear. But upon further invest., the "T" is more than wide enough for any truck or emergency rig to turn both corners. Another reason could be that there's a hydrant located right in th emiddle of the two no parking signs...LOL... Someone wanted to keep that area clear! Either way, there's more than enough room for legal parking on BOTH sides of the hydrant.

Exactly how have I given out a cop's address? (If it was a cop, that is.) I even blocked out the plate. There are multiple apartment buildings in the area. You'd have a better chance finding a cop's home picking a random house in Bensonhurst. By the way, he obvioulsy doesn't mind advertising that he's a police officer given the junk on his dashboard. Be pretty easy to remain incognito - just park like a citizen.

Anyway, I'm sure he was there for police business, and didn't park illegally for his personal convenience... right??

And by the way, they want the area clear so that ambulances can get close to all the elderly folks living in these buildings.

If that is the case then there shouldn't be any parking in the street so the ambulances can get to everybody.

Hmmm.. Let's see, you gave out the Shield #, the EXACT address where the COP has been parking(according to your estimation) THREE times already, so what if you blocked out his/her plate #? All some skell has to do now is just wait for him/her when he/she comes home and do harm to him/her. Maybe the cop doen't have a nice 9-5 like you do. Maybe he/she just wants to get home and sleep? Give me a break! Actually, ALL cops are on-call 24/7, even when they're home! So yes, he/she IS on official Police business. Park lie a citizen, last I checked you HAD to be a CITIZEN to be in the NYPD. So I guess he IS parking like a citizen.
Ambulances??? Are you kidding me??? They park wherever they need to park to get the job done! Like they're gonna park there and go to a building half a block away. They'll park IN FRONT of the building to get to the patient.

I used the PBA shield number because he/she didn't display a permit #. (Is the PBA number the same as the NYPD badge #?)

This bit about malice filled criminals cruising the web for the vague locations of the residences of random police officers is either a paranoid fantasy or a convieniently self-serving fiction on your part.

And to repeat, the owner of the car is advertising that the car belongs to a cop by putting all that stuff (including the badge number) in their windshield.

As for the rest, were you really thinking I was accusing the cop of being an illegal alien? Your comment makes no sense. I'm saying he's acting like he's above the laws that citizens live by.

Your comment regarding the ambulances rings hollow.

I stand by all that I stated. Now to your ambulance remark: Do you think for one minute that the EMTs would look for parking THEN get to the emergency??? Oh no! You double-parked!!! Be gone with you vile person! I'll wait with my heart attack while you circle the block and remember, no blocking hydrants! Oh and crosswalks! Oh and no doubleparking! Oh and no bus stops! Give me a break!

Dear dragonman and mvodohmh,

If there is, in fact, no reason for the sign to be there, the officer has a LEGAL process available: petition the DOT to remove the "unnecessary" sign.

Instead, you are asking us to take the word of a self-interested party observed BREAKING THE LAW, instead of the professional judgement of the City's traffic engineers. If the professionals determined it was UNSAFE to park in this location DO NOT PARK THERE. If you do, the LAW is clear you should be ticketed.

If you are not ticketed, it is simply abuse of power by law enforcement officers. That is plain and simple.

This is not about perks. It's about basic safety, and about respect for THE LAW. Thanks for respecting the citizens of this great city!
