They have "Shomrim Patrols" in most Bklyn neighborhoods. Their members patrol the streets all hours of the day and night. Most guys don't appreciate them but they are the eyes and ears for us. Every once in a while they do give us a good collar. They deserve the courtesy.
It looks like these guys are semi-legit, are registered with the NYPD, and are issued ID cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the placard is official as well. Here's an interesting article:
Also, the original poster didn't show the signage -- it was a no standing except commercial vehicles sign, which would allow parking with a legitimately issued NYPD official business permit.

He's right, religious grioups shouldn't be able to make their own permit, and use it to park illegally in a different boro than they patrol. Probably using it at work.
I've made some good collars and I'm a civillian. I'm willing to say I'm a man of God. Can I make my own permit?
The uncivil servant part comes from civil servants allowing this type of baloney to go on.

You keep saying a religious group can't get special parking. This is not a religious group this is an organization which has been approved by the police commissioners office, whose members do work for the community. That's it nothing more nothing less. If other religious groups that are pre-dominant in certain areas wanted to get together and have people patroling and were organized enough to get a real organization together than I'm sure they could go to 1 police plaza and try to work something out.

No one should be above the law.
Yet, in New York City, government workers numbering in the thousands break the law every day by using government-issued permits to disrupt traffic, create safety hazards, and degrade quality of life.
There's also a real concern about all the plaques out there that are not recognized by the city and are used with impunity. Some of them may be from groups that are real entities that don't have an agenda or a criminal background, but Internal Affairs considers it serious business when people intentionally impersonate officers. We weren't sure which this was at first, and now know that it isn't impersonation. It's still debatable whether this permit on a NJ vehicle should be honored on NYC streets. That's a bigger question for a the city to deal with, and we'll present this as an instance worthy of that debate.
Being invlolved in a safety patrol myself (not FSSP), the issue of placards is always being debated. Although I don't necessarily agree with the fact that the FSSP vehicle identification bears and NYPD Emblem/Patch, any legal entity/corporation (Flatbuh Shomrim Safety Patrol Inc., Staples Inc., UPS Inc., even Dunkin Donuts Inc.) is entitled by law to issue identification material to it's members/employees. This includes VEHICLE IDENTIFICATIONS. These are meant for IDENTIFICATION ONLY and NOT for illegal parking (We specifically state this on the back of our vehicle id's so that our members never forget it). If someone parks illegally using a vehicle id, they take the risk of being summonsed, the same way if a Dunkin Donuts corporate employee parks illegally with a placard in the window that says "Dunkin Donuts" on it can be summonsed. Yet, it is not specifically illegal in itself for them to have a vehicle ID in the window (unless it bears markings which it is not permitted or entitled to bear. In that case it is "possession of a forged instrument"). We issue vehicle identifications to our members, but we are pretty strict about how our members are allowed to use & display it. We went out of our way to make sure that our ID's, both pocket & vehicle, do not look like the official NYPD placards. Our patrol patch is different in shape & color specifically so that it will not be mistaken as NYPD or the like. Nowehere on our vehicle id's does it say POLICE or anything that can be construed as City, State or Government. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if one day, while perusing this site, I may come across a picture of one of our vehicle identifications. This in itself does not mean that a violation has been committed. It has happened that I have used my vehicle identification while performing patrol matters, and I was not issued a parking summons, even though the officer could have issued one. It is merely a professional courtesy which is born out of a mutual respect between us and the police officers that we come into contact with on a daily basis while performing patrols or other community related activities. This does not mean that we promote the use of Vehicle Identifications for illegal parking. Always remember that everything is relative.
How about the patrols and hatzolah almost running over pedestrians and causing vehicle accidents using lights and sirens hatzolah i can understand a litlle due to the emergency nature of their ambulance runs but why do civvie patrols need lights and sirens maybe one of the posters can enlighten me

Hatzoloh has a better response time then any other abulance organization in this city.
Hatzoloh will respond to any job, jew or gentile, with the same speed & efficiency. I've personally witnessed it myself. As far as lights & sirens are concerened, ANYONE that drives with lights & Sirens can put people at risk, and it must be done with care and vigilance. There are plenty of laws governing the use of L&S, just look at the VTL (Vehicle Traffic Law).
#65, you are absolutely right. There is a tremendous amount of misuse where lights & sirens are concerened. However, not all civilian patrols have members running around with lights & sirens. Don't let the few bad apples give you a bad taste about ALL patrols.

Any civilian that takes the criminals off the streets while we are eighter out at work or sleeping peacefully in bed deserves such parking priveledges. It must take a lot of willpower to just drive aimlessly looking for the bad guys. Gas, time and especially family time is a lot to give up for. They are probably out right now watching your neighborhood while your sitting by you computer bashing the unsung heroes, the eyes and ears of the NYPD, the people who have the guts to stand up to the criminals, the heroes who protect our neighborhoods, the civilians who didn't vow to protect and serve but do it without pay. We must salute them and offer our full support to all volunteer patrols from every community, from every race. And to all of us behind this computer (including me) take your lazy "" off the chair and start doing something constructive and contribute your spare time to community service.
P.S. Stop whining

Reading this post for the first time, all I see here is baseless hatred and attacts with no substance behind them. There is nothing "uncivil" about a person who volunteers his time, energy, wear and tear on his car and fuel, not to mention the very real possibility of being seriously injured or even killed while stopping a perpetrator from committing a violent felony, from displaying an organizational vehicle indentification plate when he is parked LEGALLY!
Point to ponder. If an individual volunteered to pass by your home multiple times a night and needed a vehicle identification plate in case he had to park some where illegal because the 3 perps that he was following for the past 2 hours just went up YOUR driveway with backpacks full of burglar's tools, ski masks and duct tape - oh- I guess you never thought about something like that... I mean, that CAN'T happen to YOU! right????
Would you consider that illegal parking to be "uncivil"???
As we can all see, the parking plate has a rocker above the NYPD logo which reads "VOLUNTEER", which is not covered in any way. A clear sign that they are not trying to look like cops or any other type of employee of the Police Department. Furthermore, this organization is recognized by the NYPD as a volunteer civilian neighborhood watch group and a friend of mine who happens to be a Police Officer in a precinct that works with the FSSP told me that they are a very professional organization and that they are responsible for many arrests of career criminals due to their dedication to improve the quality of life in their neighborhood.
Instead of using our energy to bad-mouth people who protect their community, let's use it to learn from them and help protect ours!
Another poster on another thread said it best when he said these prophetic words:
Although he speaks of a real NYPD permit the last sentence rings oh so true.
This permit belongs to one of the many Hasidim civilians that are good buddies with the C.O of the 66pct. Every year he hands a stack of NYPD parking permits to the rabbi who in turn sells them at Temple. Those who give the rabbi the biggest under the table donation gets a permit. It is the oldest scam in the book that is perpetrated by the Hasidim community. Your best option is to contact the Mayor's office and........nevermind, Bloomburg is in bed with them.

#83 Why don't you take your anti-semitic ranting someplace else. I have first hand knowledge that the 66 precinct id card that was in the car parked on avenue Y (It wasn't avenue X) is in fact a COP from the 66, not a hasidic abuser like you claim. If you're so hooked up that you have this knowledge, why don't you check your facts before you spew your hatred.

Cecil you are beyond pathetic. What kind of wierdo sits around and makes up stories that never happened you have some imagination. Why do you hate Jews is it because they have more money than you? Well if thats the reason I hate to break it to you but there are hundreds of thousands of poor Jews in this city. So why dont you tell us what your reaon is?
And while youre doing that since you are obviously such a tough guy who cant be touched why dont you tell us what precinct you work for so that we Jews can go and obviously fail to get you thrown out. Oh wait that's right youre not really a cop probably just some deranged meter maid who wishes they were able to get a gun.

Actually, I believe Cecil is yanking all of our chains. Ya know, saying things just to get a reaction from people. Cecil knows that the jewish communities have the LOWEST violent crime rates in the city. This is public information that can be attained by visiting the NYPD web site and looking at the COMPSTAT statistics. Cecil also knows that he is less likely to get shot arresting a hasidic "JOHN" than pulling over someone else named Cecil. He also knows that although there is corruption in every community, there is more possibility of growth of rank for a C.O. just for the fact that he works a PCT that is in a jewish community. He knows this is because the jewish community is INVOLVED. He knows that if a cop is doing his job right, the jewish community makes sure that the cop is recognized. Cecil knows all of these things, yet, it's kinda fun to mess around with people and see how they'll react. So, I think we should all give him the reaction that he wants. Always remember, a happy Cecil is a .... well... he's Cecil!

To #94:
Thank you for your honest candor. I am glad that I am not the only one who notices how the political wheelers and dealers pander to this specific community. I am surely going to be labled a antisemite for my opinion but I have been called worse.
The fake home made parking permit in the picture depicts just the tip of the corrupt iceburg. Just for the record, this supposed mutual respect between the N.Y.P.D and the volunteer patrol units is a complete fabrication. Take from a cop who worked in the 84 when I say that we despised them and they despised us even more. Only the commanding officer got along with them.

There is corruption in EVERY community, why dwell specifically on the hasidic community? When it comes down to it, nobody is beyond blame. Instead of tooting your own horns, take action. Action speaks much louder than words. Do your part to keep your community safe and free of corruption instead of whining about everyone elses shortcomings.

#58 most people think that way about cops because they themselves are criminals. What's worng did you not like getting frisked after you got arrested?

#61, That's a pretty narrow minded statement.

How about the patrols and hatzolah almost running over pedestrians and causing vehicle accidents using lights and sirens hatzolah i can understand a litlle due to the emergency nature of their ambulance runs but why do civvie patrols need lights and sirens maybe one of the posters can enlighten me
Posted on Tue, May 01 2007 at 02:35 PM
Hatzoloh has a better response time then any other abulance organization in this city.
Posted on Tue, May 01 2007 at 08:07 PM
Hatzoloh will respond to any job, jew or gentile, with the same speed & efficiency. I've personally witnessed it myself. As far as lights & sirens are concerened, ANYONE that drives with lights & Sirens can put people at risk, and it must be done with care and vigilance. There are plenty of laws governing the use of L&S, just look at the VTL (Vehicle Traffic Law).
Posted on Tue, May 01 2007 at 08:14 PM

Posted on Fri, May 04 2007 at 11:55 AM

Cecil is indeed a whack job but I must concur with a few of his allegations. This community is not as pristine as they would have us believe.
Posted on Sun, May 06 2007 at 12:04 AM
There is corruption in EVERY community, why dwell specifically on the hasidic community? When it comes down to it, nobody is beyond blame. Instead of tooting your own horns, take action. Action speaks much louder than words. Do your part to keep your community safe and free of corruption instead of whining about everyone elses shortcomings.

40 YEARS LATER...............
1. Cecil retired in a nursing home, Oh did i mention a Jewish Nursing Home.
2. Old user 650 ended up in the hospital, Oh did i memtion he was transfered by Hatzoloh.
3. Don Knotts bought a brand new SUV in honor of his retirement, oh did i metion that he got a cheaper price because it had a roof rack.
And every one lived happily ever after.....The End....
