Same Crap Different Year: Illegal Placard use by Members of the NYPD

Observed by Dick Tracy on Fri, Jan 08 2010

Continued and clear abuse of placard regulations which clearly state that placard parking is never permitted in NO STANDING ANYTIME zones.

Despite a letter from CB 8 as follows:

The City of New York
Manhattan Community Board 8

May 28, 2009

Inspector James Murtagh
Commanding Officer
NYPD-19th Precinct
153 East 67th Street
New York, NY 10065

Dear Inspector Murtagh,

Community Board 8M has recently received a number of complaints from the public about vehicles displaying “NYPD-19th Precinct” placards parking illegally at the two small center islands located at either end of 66th Street between Second and Third Avenues.

As you know, these islands are signed “No Standing Anytime” and it is illegal for any vehicles to park at curbs with this signage, even with a city issued placard.

We would appreciate it if you would remind your officers of this fact.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Ludorf Jonathan Horn and Charles Warren

Members of the NYPD apparently fully supported by their commanding officer continue to thumb their above-the-law noses at the law and civilian authority.

That is a SEZ. How many times must you be told. They will not get a ticket. Doesn't matter who you complain too.

I want them to cease and desist not be ticketed and the SEZ crap is a bit too much especially when the western end of this abuse zone is on east 66th and 2nd ave, hardly in front of a precinct mid block on est 67th street between Lexington and 3rd ave. You should call it a SCZ "Self Convenience Zone" if you wish to make up fictional nonsense to try to explain this obvious and clear violation of placard parking rules away.

But you are correct in one element of what you wrote, they will not get a ticket, only the contempt and disrespect if every honest resident who passes. This crap is not a plus to get respect and just proves that parking violations are a revenue source, nothing more and the police consider themselves above the law.

You can keep on complaining. Nothing is going to change.

The private vehicles of police officers at Midtown North (precinct on West 54th between 8th and 9th) are parked in No Standing Anytime zones 24/7/365. 54th is their parking lot and someone, presumably from the precinct, has on a couple of occasions papered cars on West 55th (8/9) with flyers stating that that street is just for NYPD parking (specifically Midtown North, mentioned in the flyer), presumably, also 24/7. Why don't they use public transportation like everyone else?

Why you ask. Is because their hours are not 9 to 5 like yours.

Another red herring. This is broad daylight between the hours of 9-5.
Your excuses are a load of hooey.

What a load of hooey. Cops have WAY different hours than civilians. Some have 8-4, 4-12, 12-8. It's not a matter of convenience. It's a matter of safety. But you just don't get it or don't want to.

Doesn't matter if it's between 9 to 5. Their hours are not the same as yours. They can't take public transportation like you want them too. There are times they have to work overtime. Their overtime is not like yours 1 or 2 hours. Doesn't matter how many hours they work, be it 2,3, or more than that they have to still report the next day at their scheduled time.

Nonsense. Just ridiculous. The placard parking regs are sufficiently liberal enough to provide all sorts of legal spots. Resorting to illegal placard use is just an above the law load of hooey.

Dick as usual you have no clue on what you are talking about. It is not illegal placard parking. It is legal placard parking.

Dick Tracy -- not worth engaging those who can't read.

We can't read. We read very well. How else did we get this job that gives us free parking.
