Fort Greene Association Gets Action on Permits From Spitzer

Observed by efficient streets on Fri, Apr 20 2007

From Fort Green Association Newsletter:

Unfortunately, many of those spaces, as well as those in front of the church on Hanson Place pictured below, were taken all day by state employees at 55 Hanson Place who have placards allowing them up to three hours parking.

To address the situation, the FGA contacted Governor Eliot Spitzer’s office, asking that state employees that do not need their cars during the course of the workday leave them at home and utilize public transportation.

To our great surprise, illegal placard parking practically evaporated on Hanson and on Lafayette, with great assistance from the Department of Taxation and Finance. We are still pinching ourselves in amazement, and hope that other state and city agencies will be only half as cooperative as Taxation and Finance have been.

Thank you!

I call this Smoke&Mirrors. Some would have us believe that the problem is corrected by merely stating that it is when in fact it is not. This is a sad state of affairs. This tactic is most evident in this Mayor's administration. He touts that crime is low when in fact it is extremely high and the real reason it is supposedly low is because reports are not being taken for offenses. The Mayor's rational is if there are no reports then that means that crime is indeed low. If this is true then the same rational should apply to this statement:
If a tree falls in the woods, does it make a noise? ................YES!

Just because there are no reports it does not mean that crime is low and just because one states a parking problem has been corrected does not mean that it has been.

Things that make you go HMMMMMMM. I would not pop the corks on the shampgne bottles just yet.
