Park East Placard Abuse Continues.

Observed by Dick Tracy on Mon, Feb 01 2010

The placard abuse continues at Park East Synagogue by the same individual with the same Cadillac with the obvious blessing of Inspector Murtagh and his gang of 19th precinct placard abusers. http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/11544

Here we see the Cadillac parked in the NO PARKING 7AM - 7 PM zone on the North side of East 68th Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenues using a bogus placard un-ticketed and untowed.

What does it take to finally deal with this individual?

As it stands in this area the only thing restrictive parking signs do is prevent local area residents from having some much needed curbside parking in their neighborhood while at the same time reserving spots for scofflaws.

The Park east abuse went so far as to embarrass Mayor Bloomberg in a story in the NY Post yet it continues in different forms to this day. Seems to me no surprise this kind of crap goes on around here as we have a police precinct commanded by someone who encourages his own people to violate placard parking rules themselves.

What community good is this serving and what quality of life benefit do residents get from this kind of illegal nonsense right next store to a police precinct I ask?

All such abused restricted parking areas which end up full of scofflaw vehicles due to lack of enforcement should be returned to the community as normal street parking and make an end to it. In every area that was done the problem was solved.

They should take the signs down and make it legal for everyone to park. Then you'll be complaining that they are taking up all the legal spots. Which ever way it goes you still won't be happy.

The facts are that I achieved signage change on three blocks and it works just fine. These sleezes cannot compete with local area residents when the playing field is leveled. The existing signs only serve to reserve spots for scofflaws, they do not keep the streets clear of vehicles thus serve no community good. Council Member Garodnick agrees with me and indicated that in a letter to the DOT asking for a global re-look at parking rules in his district,

Again you have no clue on what you are talking about. Around one Fire house they changed all the signs to allow everyone to park. The people who lived in the area started complaining because they couldn't find any parking. Guess why Dick. All the spots were taken up by the FDNY and The EMT's that work out of that Fire House. When a shift was changing they would give the spot up to a fellow worker. The people in the neighborhood were complaining to the NYPD and there is nothing that they could do about it. Guess what happened next Dick. The signs went back up and the people never complained again about them parking with a legal placard again. You can get all the signs changed all you want. The same thing can happen in your neighborhood.

Sorry but that is not the case here. The signage change is working just fine.
It drove placard abusers off the streets and returned much needed curbside parking to the residents of the community.
That is fact and thus I know very well of what I speak.

The only valid placards are NYC DOT or NYPD issue.

Just for clarification in the supporting photos a photo of the placard was included.

Bloomberg: Let's Trim Number of Parking Placards, Tackle Fakes
WINS | January 4, 2008

Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday announced plans to reduce the number of city-issued parking placards _ which allow people to park in prime spaces off limits to other drivers -- and crack down on counterfeit and misused cards.

For years critics have blamed the Big Apple's clogged streets, among the world's most congested, and the dearth of curbside parking spaces in part on the seemingly widespread use and abuse of the placards, small cards that are placed on the dashboard and let traffic agents know that a vehicle has special privileges.

The mayor demanded each city department reduce the number of parking placards it issues by at least 20 percent by March 1.

Only the police and transportation departments will have the authority to issue the placards. Currently, various city agencies, including the fire and education departments, can authorize them.

Also, the police department will create a special unit to go after people who use fake or unauthorized placards, and agencies will devise procedures to prevent abuse among city employees, the mayor said.

I'm sure you think you know what you are talking about Dick. It's kind of strange that when I park where they can't park they say thank you for leaving that spot for me. It is only a very few that complain about placard parking. 99% of the people don't complain about it. Most of them thank us. You and a few others on this web site complain about it. As you see not much is changing. Not much is going to change when 99% don't see nothing wrong with placard parking.

99%. don't see nothing?
Obviously an education is not a job requirement.
Like the Waffen SS you not only think you are special but you are also saving the world.
The fact is your ridiiculous comments do more to hurt your cause than my posts. People involved in law enforcemnt who place themselves above the law cause the public to have no respect for the police and the law.

Just to be perfectly clear this is about a wiseguy scofflaw using a bogus placard and getting away with it because enforcement is incompetent and effete.

No Dick I'm not special. I have what you don't have and you wish you had. People on this web site are jealous that we can park where we see fit and you can't. That is the whole problem in a nut shell.

Where "YOU" see fit.
Well thank you once again for that wonderful above-the-law rhetoric.
