Thank You Central Park Precinct!

Observed by BicyclesOnly on Fri, Apr 13 2007

In my last three trips through the southern portion of the Central Park bridle path, I have yet to find a car without a current permit. Plus, there are many, many fewer cars parked there. There still seem to be a few remaining 24/7 parkers, but most have left and those who remain at least have valid permits (like the guy in the inset photo, lower right, who moved his car just before this photo was taken after leaving it in the same spot for weeks: http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/post/index/1042) .

The improvement is undeniable. Thanks Central Park Precinct--that wasn't so hard, was it? And to all who said it couldn't be done . . . eat your heart out! The Central Park bridle path is no longer a place for public employees to dump their unneeded cars!

As we know, some the apparent LE commenters on this site have serious maturity issues, and were so threatened by my posts that they felt the need to insult me personally, and taunt me by insisting that nothing would change and with vows that they would park more often and more illegally in this spot. My message to them is . . . let's have an "honorable peace." I'll limit my posts from this spot to cases of serious abuse (24/7 with invalid permit or no valid permit at all). I'd rather parking at this spot was limited to just to valid commuter uses, but life is too short (and there are too many other hotbeds of placard abuse requiring my attention).

For those still mired their puerile rut--who may insist that nothing has changed, that I am proclaiming a false victory, the photo in this post presents a distorted picture, etc. . .--well, the proof is in my prior photos of the bridle path, taken before uncivilservants started, linked at the bottom. Before March 16, the illegally cars were overflowing from the perpendicular parking area as far east as the pedestrian overpass to the reservoir track. Folks familiar with this part of the park will know exactly what I mean. Now the parallel parking east of the perpendicular parking area has DISAPPEARED.

In addition, before March 16, at least 50% of these cars over all, and the vast majority of the cars parallel parked away from the designated parking area, had empty dashes. Just check out the posts from Central park using this query: http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/?sign=13. Now there are NO cars witn an empty dash.

Steven, I don't doubt your claims but that picture does look like it was taken in the A.M. The park is usually empty at that time and the bridal path is usually less congested with parked cars as well. Try posting a picture that reflects the busiest time of the day. By taking a picture in the wee hours of the day you only play into the hands of the nay sayers who say that you are only submitting manipulated pictures. Please do not play into their hands.

What would possess a man to get up in the early hours of the morning and to take pictures of cars parked in the bridal path only to post them on this site and to claim some sort of pyrrhic victory. Steve, your dedication to this portion of the park is bordering on the obsessive. Perhaps you should exit the park and address the other 99% of the parking permit abusers that are sprinkle though out the city. D not get me wrong, I would love a clear bridal path but I'd rather have a clear hydrant, bike lane or a clear crosswalk. Join the rest of us and stop obsessing about your little stretch of paradise lost.

#1, this was taken at approximately 10:00 a.m.--when most of my other pictures of this spot were taken. #2, I've posted plenty of hydrant, crosswalk and sidewalk violations as well. I paid particular attention to this spot initially because I saw that it was becoming an object of gross abuses you don't ordinarily see outside of parks (cars abandonded for weeks, dozens of cars with empty dashes parking as if they were NYPD in an SEZ). I continue to pay attention to it because of empty boasts of apparent LE that the parking abuses have not been cleaned up. No obsession. Once again, thanks CPP and thanks uncivilservants.org!

It does appear like the sun is either getting ready to rise or that it is setting. Either way that is not a 10 a.m sky. Steve, please clarify.

It was just an overcast day. I went back to the photo and checked the time stamp. I know I invited this commentary by anticipating it, but why don't you just go and take your own pictures if you're so curious?

I can back up a couple pieces of what Steve asserts. After speaking with the CP Pct., they made clear that long-term storage of vehicles in this location is not permitted, that they had taken care of a number of vehicles that were in fact being stored long-term in the area, and that they had been on the site various times.

What a load of HOOEY! Steve, the situation at the bridal path remains the same and you know it. You are to embarrassed to admit the truth so instead you make up this cockamamie story about the problem being fixed when in fact it has not.

There are no more empty windshields because everytime we need a plaque for a friend or a weekend visitor we just go inside to the desk and get extra parks dept plaques that they gave to make everything look nice and legal for you steve.Just wait until the summer and the met opera nights.I love free parking!!!

I was in the park on the bridle trail and it is so beautifully maintained it really is a shame that cars have to park there.

It is unbeleivable how clean they keep this place, the time and money involved. No other park gets this attention.

You wouldn't park your car in the middle of the botanical gardens would you?

I wonder if his mothers car will be obvious? Nice pic of MOS mother using the long term permit would be a good one for the board.....

The bridal path continues to be a mess. In my opinion not enough has been done. I will not be satisfied till this area is blocked off to all parking.

Steve, have you tried visiting this area during the weekend? It is a mad house that deserves your attention ASAP.

Have you gone there and seen how much work is put into making it pretty? If this was Forest Park, it wouldn't be as bad.

Plus it's unnerving to be in such a wild place and have to dodge the cars driving in and out

The weekend? Usually most cops are off and the parking is less than the weekdays. Sounds like a lot of zoo visits, like you see on the drive near 59th St.

nothing has changed! A few vehicles were taken out. But all the others are still there. A gold ford for example, 5th pct ... blue van in the mornings...I saw two people park it there and I followed them onto the train after they parked it...etc...they don't work in the park. Funny thing is most are from the conservency that you are a member of. But don't you dare say anything...they have the money.

In an article in today's New York Times about the closing of the Claremont Stables, apart from the high cost the owners cited the main reason for the decline of horse riding in Central Park was all of the joggers and pedestrians in the bridle path not the cops and other park workers who have parked here for decades and where you can plainly see that there is, or should I say was, plenty of room for horses to trot by. Shame on you Steve and TheHucklebuck for such a misdirect effort!!!

He steve, that silver jeep is back!! You know the one that does repairs in the path while you film him.He even has a brand new parking plaque compliments of the precinct.I guess you will have to wait another 7 months for that one to expire before you go on another tirade.Good job steve!! Too bad soo sad baby!!

It is that time of the year again and I am going to bring my extended family to toe Central Park free concert. Guess where I will be parking my SUV with my expired NYPD parking permit? Being a retired NYPD DET has its privileges. I will be assuming that the rest of the civilian public will be forced to park in garages on central park west and east.

What a bummer.

The hours lavished on this post by detractors and taunters have accomplished nothing. As the pictures show and Efficient Streets confirms (cmt. #11), this site and these posts have accomplished plenty. But don't let that stop you--keep the insults coming! That way I know you care . . .

The other night at the Met, there were so many double parked vehicles in front on 5th ave, and on e85st between 5th and Madison for a party for the rich and famous. I didn't see Steve there taking pictures, why not?????? WHY NOT STEVE?????? The conservency approved it, didn't they? Just like when you have your parties by the Band Shell!!!!! Isn't it Steve? When the concerts go on this summer, make sure you take pictures of the bridal path then! Or go on the Great Lawn and take pictures of your friends drinking wine and eating the cheese. But you won't! Because your there drinking the wine with your friends, aren't you?

If anyone sees #38 report him to the psych ward at Bellevue for a totally dumb, time wasting comment.

Actually, I shouldn't talk, wasting my time and yours commenting on his stupidity....
