This Officer works LONG hours

Observed by BatParkRanger on Fri, May 04 2007

Permit states that the vehicle is on "Official Business." This Range Rover was parked in this NO STANDING ZONE, close to the corner for a minimum of 15 hours from 8PM on 5/3 to 11AM on 5/4. At around 10PM a saw a man getting something from it while his female companion waited. Maybe I can get some business like that!

Hey, what happened to blocking the plate number, that is not an official plate...

#1, you think we should block the plate number of this idiot with an FOP vanity plate on his personally owned vehicle? He's advertising to the world he's a cop! And #2, public employees just don't have the right to take public resources for their own use to make up for a salary they are unhappy with. I've been convinced by some of the more rational commenters on this site of the need for a regulated parking benefit for cops who work OT. THAT's "the least" the public can do. This guy is just breaking the law while off-duty simply because he can. The public doesn't owe him a free pass to do that.

Steve would it be ok if I posted your home address and telephone # here on the net so everyone knows who you are and where you live? What difference does it make what the mans profession is, you shouldn't post license plate #'s, just as I wont post your home address. See what I mean its an invasion that YOU or other working people dont want.

#3 three years without a contract and counting...if the salary continues this way...economics will dictate that police will quit for better jobs (take a look they already are about 1000 per year deficet)...thus crime with go up. lets face it...who wants to police this libral city with ungrateful citizens anyway, when i can move to nj get paid what i deserve and live in a town where people thank me rather than give me a ccrb complaint when i do my job.(ie on a traffic stop a perp bites you and then you have to answer to ccrb why you cuffed him violently)
your right cops should NOT have any perks, make this city so un enticing that they leave at an even faster rate.

just remember when your house price drops to 200,000 due to increase crime because all the cops left because they are under paid, and have to hire perps to police perps maybe then you'll understand why this site is a waist of time

Where is the mod to enforce the rules about displaying the plate information here? Hypocrisy at it's best!

That's not a plate, it's bragging. Why hide the plate when the owner wants all to know?

Nice touch that parking garage sign to the right rear...

I see NO violation here. All I see is someone intentionally putting up pictures of a cops car and making a point of it.

Where is the moderator? I call for this post to come down! This poster has an obvious bias against cops.

I don't think this post shows any particular bias to "cops" (or probation officers), and I don't think that displaying the plate of a custom Fraternal Order of Police special designation plate constitutes a moderation emergency.

That said, the plate is now blanked. BatParkRanger -- try to blank plates in the future.

No emergency that guy is a cop, someone could get his address from his custom plate and go to his residence and try to hurt him. I see that as an emergency!

If he's not worried about being ID'ed as a cop, why should we? That's not a placard, that's plates that are bragging and disobeying the law.

I thought only cops could access the license plate database. hmmm indeed.

Beanstalk, via the internet anything can be purchased .....anything. These perps obviously payed for the information and low and behold an address was attained. Just goes to show that anything is possible.

Hmmmm Indeed what bean, with a computer you can get information on anyone as long as you have some information on them.

Hey do you have to be a police officer to be in the FOP? I want to join to support my police.

Such excitement!
First, let me say that I do my best to follow the rules - any rules. This was my first post and I completely missed the part about blocking license plate numbers when I posted. I guess that can be done in Paint, but otherwise I don't have any fancy software to do it. I was out of town for a bit so was not viewing the site. In the future (and there will be a future as there are so many "official" skels scamming parking), I will block plates.
Second, what's the point of having a moderator approve postings if they don't catch something like this?
Third, if this dude wasn't scamming, he'd have nothing to worry about. If he is upset about the pay and no contract like #9 he should either quit or learn to live with it. Where's the line? Scamming on parking, cheating on your taxes, shoplifting? This is not a gray area.

#22 ... Many state agencies can access the lic. plate database.
Such as ANYONE at the DMV......Hmmmm, indeed.

Hmm, Mr. Ballsy Anonymous. Glad we could help you with your anger management. You forgot the part about my Mom wearing combat boots. Grow up will you?

Since I live here, I saw the Probation officer - NOT A COP - when I was pulling in to park myself after dropping off my wife and son. Since I am a good father and spend as much time with my son as possible. This takes me out into the neighborhood quite a bit BEING A DAD teaching my son right and wrong, not doing "recon". This guy is a Probation officer. If he can't afford to pay for parking like the rest of us I suggest he drive a less expensive vehicle. I do. I'm sure I make more than he does annually (unless Probation officers make $200,000) but my car costs at least $20,000 less than his. He could pay for parking for three years in this neighborhood for that.

Hey bat maybe he is married and they have a dual income. I'm glad you make $200,000. But I'm a NYC Sgt and between me and my wife we make close to $250,0000. So just because we have certain types of jobs don't put us all in the same category. Also this is America he can drive whatever kind of car he likes. Its not nice to judge people by how much they make, more people should be concerned about themselves and their families and stop worrying about what everyone else around them is doing. You all sound like a bunch of two year olds. Grow up people, their is more to life then pointing fingers at everyone else. Look in the mirror and make sure your house is in order before you start casting stones at other people.

Anon #31 - It would be nice if people actually read posts they were responding to instead of just spewing out their opinions in a vacuum.

I never complained about what the perp drives. All I said was that if he CAN afford this car then he CAN afford to pay for parking. So many of the perp apologists here like to play the "oh cops are so underpaid we deserve to break the law" line, that I was merely making the point that this guy didn't fall into that category. That's it.

I hope #'s 29 and 9 read you post to see how well compensated you are. I am happy for you. You seem like the kind of cop that does their best to obey all laws not just the ones you agree with.

Hello all – Definitely understand and appreciate your board. There is much abuse and too many fake permits out there. I can spot them a mile away. However, some have very legitimate permits and reasons for the need to park in order to have their vehicle accessible immediately and 24/7. I totally agree that other than emergency vehicles in the process of an actual response or emergency, nobody should create a hazard to the public with their vehicle parking.

A friend on this site noticed my vehicle posted and urged me to take a look at your site. First, thank you to the moderator and other supporters – license plate numbers should not be posted and published. Second, my permit is 1000% legit and assigned to me. (one person commented that ( “(I) would not risk the felony of a forged NYC placard” - he is right!!). As “ugly” as it appears, it is the official department permit and not a fake or copied (I will ask them to design better ones for 2008!). Third, my assignment requires me to be available with a car 24/7 to respond to officer related incidents Not just in Manhattan but citywide and surrounding counties - public transportation is not a viable option. I am often running out in the middle of the night and throughout the weekend (whichever 2 days my “weekend” happens to fall).

I didn’t park in a hazardous location for any pedestrian or emergency vehicle (nor do I ever) to have an issue. I am quite a nice person who tries to be respectful of others.

As a result of citywide budget cuts, official city owned vehicles are not assigned. Furthermore as a result of citywide reining in of permits, the NYSP “POLICE” plates once freely assigned are now just in department owned cars and not personal cars used for official business. So the movement is definitely working.

I would recommend that NYPD officers or the NYC Department of Investigation (DOI) challenge those with permits for their department ID (or authority to have the permit) if they see the operator. I think this would help some of the problems of fake permits and abuse of permits. Also, before jumping to conclusions and making baseless accusations, a simple question might yield a reasonable and appropriate answer.
