The Home Depot has security that patrol the parking lots and I hope they would have done something about this blatent abuse of authority. At the least 311 should have been notified and a complate made..

How do you know that the person operating this vehicle is not actually physically impaired? The city has an equal employment policy and cannot discriminate against people who are impaired. He may be one of them. Did anyone wait around and ask him?

Hey carne asada...are you some sort of street lawyer or something...When's the last time you have heard of a disabled Sanitation Dept employee getting a dept. issue truck to run errands at home depot??? The dept's mantra is..NYC'S STRONGEST...hell they even have their own city avenue named after them...AVENUE OF THE STRONGEST!!!

For your own personal edification asada..he was fully able to walk un-assisted into home depot and complete some shopping without any special accomodations for the handicapped or otherwise..I should know I took the pics!

Alias I don't believe you understand that walking isn't the only physical Impairment that a person could have, he may have a vision or a heart problem that entitles him to park there. All I am saying is find out the story before you post. You obviously didn't find the facts out before you posted. None of you do.

And an FYI I just looked up on the web and NYC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate yadda yadda yadda so sanitation cannot turn someone down for a job without good reason and maybe the guy worked there and got hurt but can still drive a car. They can't fire him for his injury right? My friend is deaf and is allowed to drive as per NY DMV.

If the driver has a vision problem they shouldn't be driving!!!!!

If the driver can walk in unassisted, do shopping and come back, they shouldn't have a handicapped permit.

What I would like to see is a site that publicly exposes 'handicapped' drivers that are really fine.

The ones that are not too fine should not be driving. In my town we are plagued with many drivers over age 80. Don't give me that crap they are OK to drive. They are not. Get them off the road. Get the privileged high school kids off the road, too. Next come the speeders and the drunks. After them the unregistered, uninspected, unlicensed, and uninsured. Lastly get rid of preoccupied cell phone users, breakfast eaters, makeup artists, and smokers. Wow....I am the only one on the road....cool.

I know one sanitation worker who has a club foot. Most likely this was him operating this truck. Am I to assume that just becasue he drives a different car he is not handicapped anymore.

In my local shopping center, the cops come on pvt prop to write those summonses. It's amazing to watch the parade of "handicapped" city workers, one after the other that park there.

Someone has to prove to me that the man or woman who drove that car is not impaired in anyway before I believe that it is wrong for them to park there. If a regular person who was not handicapped parked there and walked away would their picture be up on this site. If this person is not handicapped it is just as wrong correct? But nobody waited to see if that happened. No violation, the thread poster if he were in school would get an incomplete for not enough information to support their arguement.

Not all people who have legitimate handicapped permits are unable to walk unassisted into and out of a store.

IF I WERE ON DUTY AT THE TIME, NOT ONLY WOULD HE HAVE SOME ORANGE PAPER ON HIS WINDSHIELD WIPER..BUT THERE WOULD BE DEPARTMENT TOW THERE IF I FELT THIS GUY WANTED TO START A PISSING CONTEST!

When it comes to city or government official vehicles violating VTLs the Individual operating the vehicle should be issued tickets not the vehicle itself. Maybe then we will see incidents such as this fade away.

Hey alias. inter department summons are never issued. We do not issue other agencies summonses because the city owns all these vehicles. Why would I issue a summons to myself.

NYS courts just last week right in front of me hammered a dept. of health truck for parking in a MARKED designated spot for NYS judges... Now tell me they don't have the ability to do the same either! I have hammered down a few other agencies because they get outta control believing that we WON'T or DON'T ticket them cuz we work for the same city..hah! I have issued tickets to NYC MTA top brass with official plates doing in the *80's on the G.C.P. and I have hit lowly sanitation for playing bumper cars in their own trucks on public streets.. I do this because when I lay paper on these non-conformists, it means it's ONE LESS idiot I as well as YOU have to deal with when we are in our own personal cars!!!

As the merry go round goes round and round, this vehicle was probably picking up supplies to repair a sanitation facility more in need of repair than the Central Park or any other police precinct. Let's get our priorities in order.
