Fire Hydrant and Bus Stop

Observed by bratton on Wed, Apr 11 2007

In front of the Armory building. Making a bus stop irrelevant and blocking a hydrant.

"Department of the Army" permit not recognized in NYC, nor on Mars. What does "This Vehicle is on Official Military Business" at the Armory mean?

So two days after the Fort Dix terrorist plot is foiled, bratton is out taking pictures of military personnel vehicles. Bratton either has some big pair of balls, or some big empty space between his ears. My bet is the latter seeing he can't figure out what ""This Vehicle is on Official Military Business" at the Armory mean?" means.

fire hydrant.
within 15 feet either side of the hydrant.

That is what Bratton is going to telll his interogators at Guantanomo...parked in front of a hydrant? Good luck, pal.

#3 I fail to understand what the foiling of an alleged terrorist plot against members of the military has to do with enforcing the law elsewhere. "Official Military Business" does not allow one to park at hydrant. I think the "big empty space" between anybody's ears is the person who parked that SUV.

Can thode yellow taxis parked across the street get any bigger?

That's a taxi stand across the street.

Only blocking plates of LE, bkcop1. Sorry, all else stays up.

Cut this guy some slack. He is from Pennsylvania and does not know the rules of this city, besides id rather summons a New york citizen parked in the same spot because the city s more likely to get the money to fill their coffers.

That is the way we were trained. Hit the schmoe who is most likely to pay the summons.

#10 - I venture a guess that he's not from PA, but is committing insurance fraud.

While I applaud your efforts to expose the inconsiderate and illigal acts of others, don't you think it was rather stupid to post photos WITH LICENSE PLATES EXPOSED of military personnel vehicles. In light of recent revelations of terrorist plots targeting our country's defenders I think your actions are almost treasonous. Remove these posts.

#12 You might have a point, but to claim that exposing illegal acts are "almost treasonous" is reaching.

First off, members of the military are just as big a target for terrorists as members of LE. The recent arrest of 6 terrorists in NJ proves that.

Second, why is it hard for you to understand, "This Vehicle is on Official Military Business" when the vehicle is parked outside an armory? Don't you think that being parked outside the armory, the owner of that vehicle is probably inside on some form of official business?

#14 Doesn't matter if the vehicle is on "official business". Parking at a hydrant is illegal, "official business" or not. Military placards are not recognized in NYC.

Good Lord, Treasonous?
Can the guy get a bigger yellow ribbon flag?

#10. Do you really think he is committing insurance fraud, or do you just have nothing better to throw your two cents in with? Last time I checked, PA rates are actually higher than NY because it was not required by law to have insurance.

#16. Is auch disdain really neceessary? Being in the National Guard these days is not exactly a dream come true, or haven't you noticed?

The bottom line is military, law enforcement or whom ever, blocking a fire hydrant is illegal not to mention it could cost somebody their life! VTL states 15' clearance on both sides of a hydrant! Once again lets hear how enforcing these laws will hinder our freedom..

So it's ok to park in the hydrant, but the guy that points it out goes to Guantonomo. What do they call a system like that?

Not so strange. A few years back several British tourists were detained in Greece for taking photos of military aircraft. Their explanation was that they were just engaging in the good old British pastime of "plane spotting". The Greek authorities found that to be incredible, and they sat in detention for several months or maybe longer until diplomatic efforts secured their release. It is well known that terrorist and other threats often photograph their targets in advance of their attacks. Two days prior to these photos, six were arrested for plot to kill military personnel in Fort Dix. So if it seems to you like an intelligent thing to just happen to be focusing your uncivil servant anti-permit campaign on military personnel who aren’t even civil servants, taking up close zoom ins of the permit with the name clearly visible and then publishing them on the internet, then we will just have to agree to disagree.

No summons for him. He has a permit in the window that grants him the courtesy.

I agree, there is no safety hazard here especially since he has a legit placard on the dash which makes said violation disappear upon further scrutiny.

AAAHH this hero ain't getting a summons from me, he's got the proper magnetic ribbon.

anonymous

So let me get this straight, he takes a picture of a hydrant and goes to Guantanimo?

anonymous

Guantonomo, sorry I don't proof better

#22: They were tourists that had gone there just to watch planes, like the train buffs do. Big article on them in Pop Comm or MT about their radios. The other example you site is Ft Dix where they had a tape of them playing jihad and nothing more. Supposedly they were arrested trying to buy weapons because they didn't have any.

Not that I doubt there are some who would carry out such plans, but in light of the Pat Tillman, Jessica Lynch and WMD stories, I can't swallow any more bull.

In 5 years of us being told the terrorists are lurking everywhere, that's the best you can do? You've been sold a bill of goods Fido.

The magnetic ribbon on the rear of the car is just like a permit to me. I would give this military hero a free pass every day of the week. It is the least that we can do.

26 is the reason our entire legal system is a fraud.

"Yes your honor, I could easily tell he was a real military hero because he had a magnetic permit made in China affixed to the rear deck!"

Obviously a mil hero because who else would park illegally?

What's with the PA plate? Bought it at that bodega in the BX?
