Taking turns forcing park goers into the street

Observed by norwoodcitizen on Mon, May 31 2010

Yet another dirty cop decided the hatched area designed to get pedestrians into the park safely was better used as his parking space.

Who cares if kids have to walk in the street to get to the park on Memorial Day, right?

No Courtesy when mothers with little kids have to walk in the street because of the actions of selfish cops.

No Professionalism, when law enforcement breaks the law and their buddies don't enforce it.

No Respect when an entire community suffers this continual insult on our park!

Why do you get upset if a civil servant parks in an unauthorized spot? I love it, because that opens up one more available spot for myself. Being jealous of these guys will get you nowhere, except a parking spot even further away.

That logic is inherently flawed. If it's OK for this guy to park in that spot, then it shouldn't be a no-parking zone in the first place and should be open for all people to park there.

I'm sorry "guest" but I suggest you actually read the posting before accusing people of "being jealous." The fact of the matter is that parking in this location makes it more dangerous for every pedestrian trying to get into the park.

If it were safe to park there, it should be available to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis. That would be one more available spot for anyone, not just law-breaking cops. But it's not safe to allow parking there, which is why the DOT found it necessary to remove a parking space in the first place.

I am always willing to walk a little further to allow everyone in my community to safely walk to our park. I expect nothing less from those paid to protect us!

@Guest: You are correct. They are jealous. They are jealous because we can park there and they can't. Like you said it leaves a spot for them.

Dragonman, you are a USPS worker so the ONLY place you allowed to park with your placard(legally, of course) is under a "no parking/except USPS." We all know from your comment that you feel comfortable being a scofflaw.

mO15094 for information I can park where ever I please. My placard and my badge says I can.

Hi, devil's advocate here. To the OP, could you include a pic of the spaces behind the white and red sign? The sign on the bottom. Seems to me there are space marks big enough for cars there...

dragonman, it must hurt to be wrong, yet again.

3.5 Permits: "Rule 4: Government vehicles with Law Enforcement or non-NPA Agency Business Parking Permits, may not park in No Permit Areas unless in their agencies’authorized parking."

Whatever mo15094. Kind of strange that I don't get any tickets. Maybe it's because postal vehicles DON'T get tickets. So believe me it doesn't hurt one bit.

Not sure I understand what you're asking mvodohmh.

It is a NO STANDING zone because there's no sidewalk. The area is supposed to be left open for the pedestrians to cross the street and walk down to the park entrance.

The gate to the park gate opens out to the street without the sidewalk, and the street has a sharp turn. So the NO STANDING is also there to improve the visibility for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Further to the left in the photo, it's ok to park because it is beyond the area needed to get pedestrians safely into and out of the park. The clearly marked area where standing is not allowed has been designated after a lot of careful consideration by the DOT.

I see what you're getting at norwood. I looked closer and saw that there is a gate there at the far right. I also noticed the diagnol lines don't go into the space where it looks like a "T" on the road. Maybe that's the parking space(s) you were talking about and I am thinking about? And yes, there is a ped walking sign up. Driver should have known better than park to endanger peds where there are no sidewalks.
