New York Daily News: It's coffee-drinking, zig-zagging traffic agent Daniel Chu vs. Councilman Dan Halloran's team

Reported by uncivil on Mon, Jun 21 2010

THE SURLY TRAFFIC AGENT who slapped a Queens councilman with a parking ticket also got into a verbal tussle with the lawmaker's chief of staff earlier this month.

Dan Halloran (R-Whitestone) insists he had no idea Daniel Chu was the same agent who issued staffer Dennis Ring, 34, of Whitestone, a summons when the councilman decided to tail the agent on Monday.

"Certainly, I had no idea what agent we were following when he blew by us in a car speeding," said Halloran, who was with Ring. "I wasn't aware who the officer was until after the ticket was issued."

Ring was given a $165 parking ticket on June 5 for blocking a crosswalk. It was doled out in front of the same Whitestone Dunkin' Donuts where Halloran and Chu got into a heated confrontation a week later.

Chu also noted on Ring's ticket that the license plate number didn't match the City Council placard displayed in the car's window.

"He started yelling at me, 'What's that placard?'" Ring said. "I started arguing with him."

Chu told the Korea Daily News that Ring had said he worked for a city councilman. He then demanded the ticket be dropped.

Only Council members are issued the placards, said mayoral spokesman Jason Post.

Ring fought the ticket in court and lost. He is appealing the judge's decision.

Halloran claimed he followed Chu this week after he spotted the agent talking on a cell phone and speeding through stop signs.

The councilman said he was slapped with a $165 parking ticket after Chu saw him taking pictures of the agent's car parked in front of a crosswalk.

So T.E.A Chu issued a ticket to Ring, who was ILLEGALLY using his boss's palcard. And they had no idea they were following the same agent? I call BS. Then of course Ring started to argue with the agent about said placard. On the back of my placard, it says to obey any and all uniformed personnel, ie Police, traffic agents and the like. So I guess Ring and his boss better read up on the bylaws and pay the fine. I love it when civilians think they are above the law as well. Ring demanded the ticket be dropped because he works for Halloran...LOL! I'd say that's the epitome of abuse of office. And what's with the picture of him standing in front of his veh while it's getting a ticket? Is he gonna try to fight that as well??? LOL!
