if this story was on fox 5, you'd be changing the channel right now...it's a fluffer, no hardcore journalism anymore...inconclusive babbling about nothing of great ado.
#5 - I swapped the 1st photo with the hidden 2nd photo to show the car parked at the hydrant.

#3 You say: "When civillians park illegally we have the police."
What about all the "protected" groups that police are not allowed to write tickets too?
This infuriates the Police just as much as bad police parking infuriates you. When that gets fixed, maybe other problems will get fixed too, all in one shot. LE are not the only ones who park illegally on a regular basis.
Whether sitting at a Bar or Not, you can clearly see this vehicle is parked dead smack in front of the fire hydrant and the 1st. Photo did show the PERMIT..
#9 Their not the only ones but, they happen to do it more frequently and are rather arrogant in the manner in which they do it..

#11, I disagree.
LE are very polite about how they park. They say sorry, and move it along.
I find that the "protected groups" are arrogant about their parking. They yell, and argue, and cry, and threaten a cop or traffic agent when they want to take any type of action (mostly just asking them to move the car). The cop then gets a complaint on THEIR record for doing THEIR job (the very job [handling illegal parking] which you are complaining about). When THAT too changes, then maybe the parking situation will start getting better.
So basically, if you want to fix LE "abuse" of parking permits, then you also need to fix ALL OTHER PARKING PROBLEMS. It's either all on none.

reading these posts it sounds like a victory that one legit violation has been discovered. 35,000 cops and one violation that is pretty good. if tiger woods made one putt out 35,0000 he would be working at the mini golf handing out pink balls. I think this site is really good for nypd because it doesn't seem like they have an out of control abuse problem. I think the problem is other agencies such as USPS making up their own parking areas. How about the valet parking in the outerboroughs that park your car illegal. so many problems but to gain public support just blame the nypd for every problem. It must take really thick skin to be a cop in the city.
Yeah go to 60th street between 1st and 2nd where Scores is. Every night there are numerous illegally parked cars, some of which even cause traffic. These guys are definitely in Scores and none of them have parking placards. I don't think PD is the problem here, guys. These idiots who park on this block and don't get ticketed for some reason (probably because Scores pays off the 19th Precinct) are CIVILIANS. Leave NYPD alone. Also with this post, I doubt the guy was in a bar, like you stated, for more than a few minutes unless you are telling us that you ACTUALLY waited outside or watched the man who was driving sit in the bar for a long time.

#9: I hate that protected parking also, but that is the job of the cops and not this site. I think you learned in the 3rd grade that "he's doing it too" won't cut it with the teacher.
#12: The cops are not polite judging from the comments here and especially the thread about the hydrant /crosswalk parker on West End Ave.
#13: Just one? I caught 4 serious just within 2 blocks of my house the last time I went out. That included 2 who drove like they were the only car on the road.
#14: We don't condone that either. If you have info the 19th is being paid, call the FBI. I don't see how PD isn't the problem if they are taking payoffs to let the mob service it's customers properly.

WillNYC is making it up. The time of pay off's is LONG gone.
The cops over there don't bother with the double parkers because too many of the customers are people of power in this city, and as such are "protected". The hard working cop will be the one who gets in trouble, and the ticket he wrote will get thrown out on top of it. So why should he bother?

#20. None of what you said has anything to do with parking (the point of this site).
Nor does it have anything to do with regular cops either (the cop-bashing sub-point of this site).
Stick to the topic or sub-topic please.

After a long 4-12 tour I like to head to the nearest bar and unwind. I will admit I will I admit I usually double park my car in front of the bar or club but so do the other cops. It feels good to know that a permit will protect my car from any orange envelope troubles.
Do not hate because you do not et extended the same courtesy as I do. To be honest there is no one in existence that would dare summons a cops car....NO ONE!
Chalk it up as a loss and join me in the same bar for a brew or in your case a Zima.

#23 you say "the arrogance displayed both here and on the street are part of a bigger problem, both in the NYPD and the whole USA."
What about the arrogance of the public? They have no respect. This kind of this did not happen in the 80's. But now everyone feels that they can do anything they want and can't get in trouble for it, and THAT is also part of the problem.
#26 you say, "What about the arrogance of the public? They have no respect. This kind of this did not happen in the 80's. But now everyone feels that they can do anything they want and can't get in trouble for it, and THAT is also part of the problem."
Your saying the same thing the public is saying about the police, how they feel they can do anything they want and can't get in trouble for it, and THAT is truly the problem. The BIG difference is, your average citizen does NOT get away with it in fact if we violate the law we must pay... We can not trust the Police to Police themselves......

But the police DO get in trouble EVERY DAY! CCRB is out of control! Department inspections are going nuts with violations! IAB is cracking down on nonsence that would be nothing to a civilian but the crime of the century because it's a cop involved. It's retarded.
And why? Corruption is at an all time low. Crime is the lowest it's been in 30 years. Productivity is at an all time high. The department is the most divierse its ever been. Whats the problem?
And as pointed out before by others. The average citizen does get away with it. Every day. Not every violation gets ticketed. If that happened cops would not get 5 blocks from the precinct because of all the bad driving they see.
Cops have discression for violations, and as such, can use that discression as they see fit. That is what gives cops the power to let you off with a warning after hearing your story. Everyone would be much more upset if cops just wrote every single violation they saw.

The issues raised in the comments have nothing to do with the clear illegal activity in the picture. The post says that the car is parked illegally, the hydrant is clearly visible, and the post says he is in a bar. If you assume that the post is accurate, how can anyone defend this behavior? Face it and fix it.

I HAD A PARKING TICKET ON SUNDAY IN NYC BY PARKING CLOSER THAN 15FT FROM HYDRANT.( 52/MADISON) I WAS 9,5 FT AWAY BUT THEY WROTE 7. IT WAS THE OTHER CIVILIAN CAR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HYDRANT - PARKED ONLY 4 FEET AWAY. AFTER I FOUND A TICKET I CHECKED THAT CAR - IT HAD A 'NYC POLICE DEPT' PAPER ON THE DASHBOARD.
I WALKED 10 BLOCKS FROM THAT PLACE CHECKING ALL CIVILIAN CARS PARKED CLOSE TO HIDRANTS - THERE WERE DOZENS OF THEM THERE AND ALL WITH 'NYC POLICE DEPT'PAPER ON THEIR DASHBOARDS. WHAT IS THAT? I FELT HUMULIATED. IM NOT GOING TO ARGUE MY TICKET AS I VIOLATED THE RULES BUT I WAS PRETTY MUCH CONFUSED BY ALL THESE CAR PARKED NEXT TO HYDRANT THINKING ON THAT SUNDAY THE CITY MIGHT HAVE SPECIAL PARKING RULES - THE SAME LIKE FREE PARKING OR SUNDAY PARKING AVAILABLE.
