Personal parking spot

Observed by norwoodcitizen on Wed, Jul 14 2010

Can't find a place to park in front of your house? Too lazy to walk a block or two? No problem if you're a cop who lives in the Dirty Five-Two!

You have your own personal parking spot reserved by the fire hydrant.

(This is not the first time it has been blocking this same hydrant. And it has been reported to the NYPD before too.)

Well that vehicle is clearly not blocking the hydrant. The vehicle also appears to have NY Veteran plates. Respect needs to be giving to the people who risk their lives everyday for their city or country. Not saying to do what they like but give me break, its not in front of the hydrant. I have a better idea, take pictures of the drug dealers in the area and send it to your local precinct. Do something more constructive for your community norwoodcitizen.

Give ME a break! That vehicle is absolutely blocking the access the FDNY needs, and legally requires, to use a hydrant in an emergency. This car is less than three feet away. This isn't even close to being parked safely. Anyone else would have been ticketed, and possibly towed (just as they should be!), and I think you know that perfectly well. Please save me the lame excuses.

I respect the service of our veterans very much. I also respect the service of our firefighters, who cannot be climbing around cars while they're in the middle of risking their lives to keep us safe. And I respect the lives of all of my neighbors, who are being endangered because one lazy dirty cop/veteran can't be bothered to walk a block or two when he comes home.

The fact someone served our country in war is still not an excuse to break the law when they come back. I appreciate that this veteran kept us safe by fighting in a war, but that doesn't mean he can put us at risk from fires in our homes now.

Let us hope, though, that his service overseas was more honest than his service on the police force here. As a police officer, he has sworn to enforce our laws. What I see him doing is routinely breaking the law for his own personal gain. And he has the arrogance to do it in broad daylight. So it does make me cringe to wonder what he might have done to civilians in another country, and the hostility he may have left behind, if this behavior in his own community is any example of his moral fiber.

And just to be clear, this is just one of the many constructive things I do for my neighborhood. Drawing the line here on police corruption is very important, though, so I don't end up having to send the local precinct pictures of the dirty cops dealing drugs.

You really have nothing better to do. I've seen this so called "dirty" cop park his car in legit places all the time. I've even said hello to him on occasion and talked to him, and he said hello back every single time and is very helpful and intelligent. I am totaling against corruption, however, this guy doesn't seem corrupt. Maybe he just had a bad day, we all have them. And as far as you criticizing and questioning his duty and morality to his country, well sir/madam, you disgust me. Why don't you go overseas and serve your country? Oh wait, you would rather go around the neighborhood taking pics all day of the privately owned vehicles of others which you believe to be constructive.

Well, dear old_user_3449, perhaps we should review the facts.

This is NOT the first time this person parked in an illegal and dangerous place, using his official status to try justifying the crime. The documentation has been submitted to IAB for the other incidents as well.

You are making assumptions about the service I have done for my country here or abroad that you are in no position to make. But just to be clear, trying to attack me changes none of the facts that matter. THIS IS ABOUT THE ILLEGAL PARKING THAT PUTS OUR COMMUNITY AT RISK.

Additionally, if you read what I wrote, I did not actually question anybody's morality. Please reread this discussion carefully. I responded to somebody else's comment that insisted that he was above reproach because he is a veteran. I was clear that I don't KNOW about him, the ONLY thing I have to go by is the ILLEGAL activity he was making a pattern out of in my community. It may not be indicative of his other actions. You say that it is not, and I hope that you are correct about that.

I stand behind the belief in LAW AND ORDER. We have the privilege, due to the service of our heroic veterans, to live in a society where THE LAW APPLIES TO EVERYONE.

Your buddy might be a great guy. I truly hope that he is. What matters to me is that he does a great job of observing the law while he is in our community. He will certainly have my respect as long as he shows respect to my community. Unfortunately, that just was not the case on the several instances where he was putting our community at risk, and there really is no way you can dispute that FACT.

But let me note, since this was reported to IAB, I have not seen him parked illegally anymore. I have faith that people who start down the path of abusing their authority can be reformed, and this instance may be a good example.

Thanks for caring about our neighborhood, and about the importance of protecting our free country of law and order.

By the way, I don't do this "all day." I don't have to!

There have been so many dirty cops in our community, it has taken only a few minutes while I was already out and about to document dozens of illegally-parked cops, none of which were ever ticketed for their lawlessness. This amount of criminal behavior - yes, it is in fact corruption even if the violation is a low level offense, cannot be tolerated. And I am not alone in working for a more professional, and HONEST police force in our community.

That's because the same cops who don't write tickets for illegally-parked cars are the ones who let drunk cops stay on the road, they're the same cops who testilie to send innocent people to jail because of sloppy police work, etc.

Let's stop the little problems, before they get to be more serious problems that have severe impacts on people's lives.

Asking a police officer to OBEY THE LAW and find a legal parking space should not be a big deal. If it is a big deal for them, they should find another line of work where they can handle their assigned responsibilities.
