Arrogant, dangerous, illegal behavior by Narco Boro Bronx

Observed by hiyall on Sun, Jul 25 2010

Black BMW operator displays NYPD placard with different plate than on vehicle, parks for hours in "No Standing Anytime" zone, adjacent to school facility, 2 malls and at the merge point of 2 streets that carry major mall traffic overflow. This was site of injury accident 12/2006, in part due to blind spots, reckless driving and jaywalking. This is irresponsible behavior of one who is supposed to protect the public, but rather chooses to throw the public away in order to support a small personal convenience and cost savings (the mall parking is across the street (90th Street). He, in shorts and a bright yellow shirt, and his female companion, finally show up with packages that he stowed in his trunk, before driving arrogantly off - celebrating the fact that no summons or tow occurred.

Again you keep bringing up the tragic accidents in your area. Tell the whole truth. Only one accident was at that corner and it wasn't because of the cars parked there. It was because the person was JAYWALKING. Stop making up stories Hiyall.

Are yall getting brownie points and free beer from your fellow PBA members? You sure are not making any valid points with rational thinkers with your fallacies and false denials.

You engage in illegal activity with or without placards, when I pass by with my camera and cellphone, and you will almost certainly get turned in.

I can't fathom what you're talking about mgv1992.

Any illegal behavior by law enforcement officers is a serious "violation." Once you let dirty cops start breaking the law without consequences, we're all in trouble!

Or are you saying that you are unable to recognize that this vehicle is illegally parked at a NO STANDING ANYTIME zone, which is further indicated with pavement markings to make it 100% clear?

Of course, the DOT marked it as NO STANDING because it is unsafe. It doesn't matter if the vehicles was parked by a cop or a school teacher - it is still unsafe.

Maybe you guys should read the post by Uncivil. It plainly says that placards are legal at no standing zones. End of story.

@dragonman,

Can you point out where this was supposedly stated? NYPD Restricted placards such as the one in those post are not valid in No Standing Anytime zones, and if we said that somewhere on the site, I'd like to correct it.

It's in the last article you posted.

@ Hiyall, How come I didn't get turned in. I've parked at that location about 5 or 6 times. I still haven't been told not to park there and I never will be told not to park there.

I guess the hatch marks, which are so clear in the photo, are also a mistake? These excuses just don't hold water; it is clear as day that parking is prohibited in this location.

And no, placards do not change the law. This is not a legal parking space, with or without a placard.

If IAB catches this cheater, he'll get his vehicle towed. Better hope he can stay ahead of those cops who are actually willing to do the job the City pays them to do!

@dragonman: That appears to be an error on the part of the New York Post. No placard is allowed in a "No Standing Anytime Zone", especially Restricted NYPD Placards such as the one in this post. Restricted NYPD placards are only allowed within the vicinity of the facility printed on the placard, and may only be used in between specific signs. They may never be used in the instance posted above.

Wait a minute, I thought cops were underpaid, so what's with the BMW?

It's time people start realizing that under-educated cops in NYC make plenty of money. In fact, with overtime, they are fleecing the system for millions. It's the same with the "money-troubled" MTA.

I don't have a problem with law enforcement making a decent salary, but when I hear them complain about their "low" salary on a constant basis, I call BULLSHIT.

@m015094: The cops are the lowest paid in the city. Go outside the city and their salary doubles. That is why all the good cops leave. I call that BULLSHIT. They should be paid more than what they get paid. A lot more. So they are UNDERPAID.

Whenever they intentionally abuse their authority, break their oaths of office, break laws, codes, etc, lie, assault or other crime, they are overpaid if they are paid even $0.01. In fact, they should be fired - as the intent of the violation speaks volumes for their integrity, character and suitability to be authorized to enforce the law and carry a firearm. They breach the public trust when they do these things and cannot even be counted on to testify truthfully under oath.

What a sorry bunch of losers are the off-duty police officers who intentionally breach their oath of office and also the on-duty officers who conspire with them to give them immunity.

@dragonman. A NYPD cop with 5.5 years is making about $90K before overtime. I don't know where you're getting your info from, but it is outdated and wrong.

@m015094. You should read the whole story before you comment on it. Not every police officer makes that after 5 1/2 years. That is still less than what they make in other areas. They still need to be payed a higher salary. Your info is out dated and wrong.

This whole debate about how much, exactly, they make is ridiculous. Whether or not they deserve more, they clearly make enough to pay for parking if they can't find a legal space on-street.

When they choose to park illegally, they're not just breaking the law, violating their oath, and putting people at risk. They're also being pathetic cheapskates.

It really is an embarrassment for the whole city.

@dragonman

Why are you defending cop's salaries? You're an USPS employee - with a "special" job that barely requires a bachelors degree...bla bla..besides the point.

The link I posted is the CURRENT link to the website, so it's not outdated...nice try though.

Also, you claim that cop are the "lowest paid." Last time I checked, the lowest paid in the city didn't own car (especially not $50K BMW's) and didn't even drive at all.

I respect cops. I respect firefighters. I think they should be paid well - AND have benefits.

BUT, they shouldn't abuse their benefits like SOME are doing.

@m015094. Did you ever hear of a spouse working. I can't do what I do on my salary alone and neither can they. I defend them so much is because they put their lives on the line to protect us and all they get is people complaining about how they park so please give me a break. Also a cop working the day shift does not make the same as a cop working the night shift. Also their work allowance is not included in their base pay. I don't have a special job. I earned what I have there. I take full advantage of it too.
