this person has no problem using the fire hydrant for their personal parking space every night. unless sleeping counts as work, this guy needs to stop.

Been a firefighter and that's not a safety hazard at all. More than enough room to work.

This is the wording of the code: Stopping, standing or parking closer than 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Between sunrise and sunset, a passenger vehicle may stand alongside a fire hydrant as long as a driver remains behind the wheel and is ready to move the vehicle if required to do so.

So if 15 feet is well past safety requirements, why don't FDNY personnel lobby to change the law?

Until it is changed, 15 feet is the boundary.

A) I do not believe you.
B) It is still ILLEGAL.

The job of law enforcement officers is to enforce the laws. It is NOT their job to decide that the law really doesn't apply to them because they know better (and it also just happens to be personally convenient if it doesn't happen to apply...)

This part of the job is simple. And we must insist that they do the work they are paid to perform.
