Personal vehicle displaying NYPD placard was illegally parked in a restricted parking zone (for funeral parking only) and was blocking a funeral hearse for my late uncle's procession. My vehicle, despite having a "funeral" sticker displayed on the dashboard and parked in the same restricted zone, was given an "expired inspection" summons, however the illegally parked personal vehicle with the placard was not issued any summons whatsoever. A true immoral, disgraceful and unethical disparity of treatment by NYPD and/or parking enforcement.

I'm sick of hearing "Get the traffic agent's badge number." A TEA was suspended without pay over ticketing a PERSONAL vehicle with an NYPD placard. http://wcbstv.com/video/?id=91293@wcbs.dayport.com . No Parking Anytime is also okay for nypd placards so i dont really see a problem with this. i'm sure if the officer who had parked his car was there and you had explained it was a funeral he would have moved immediately. also, most churches and synagogues have No Parking Anytime signs. FUNERAL homes have No Standing Except Authorized Vehicles: Funeral Director, or something like that. Just get them to change the signage.

I also just noticed that this violation is from last december???

Street Soldier, do you even know what SEZ means? You keep using it incorrectly over and over again.
And why is the poster complain that his car got a ticket for expired registration? That ticket has nothing to do with the funeral, or parking for it. It's just a case of bad timing. And even then, your vehicle should be properly registered at all times.

as a civilian observer ,i think its quite funny, the second one of "Yours"gets a ticket its time to make a complaint, but when its a cop parked a way you dont like its photo after photo.......if i was a cop i would ticket everybody for any little thing they can and tell them to thank this website .........im actually shocked that the cops dont get together and do such a thing ,but again it is the year 2007 times have changed in the city

#11 As long as those tickets are justified, no problem!! I would like cops to do their job all the time without bias.

Discretion is our greatest tool!!!
Posted on Mon, May 21 2007 at 10:32 PM
Discretion is not a tool, just the people that think so.
Posted on Mon, May 21 2007 at 10:36 PM
Violation is not a Crime. Therefore, we have the discretion. Live with it.

So....AboveTheLawUrNot..........I guess next time I see a 90 year old guy driving without a seatbelt on....and it happens to be your father, i should summons him......cool.
Posted on Mon, May 21 2007 at 10:43 PM
#16 Absolutely. Like I said "without bias". By the way my father is only in his 50's and if he was to get slammed for not wearing a seatbelt he would think twice about doing it again.....

The signs do not specify that parking is reserved for funerals. No parking anytime means exactly that...No parking anytime. Please don't come here crying about being denied access to something you had no right to, reserved parking for your funeral. If you want that cop to get a ticket than the hearse should get one whenever it parks there or a priest should get one when he parks in front of his church in violation of no parking signs.
Be careful what you wish for.

Abovethelaw I dont know if you are aware but as a Police Officer if for example, I see 3 cars double parked and I summonse 1 car and I decide not to summonse the other 2 , I can do that its called DISCRETION AND ITS 100% up to me.

Let me ask you this. You say discretion is not a tool and it is BS. Ok that is fine, so tell me how do I enforce every single law (there are more than you could even imagine) and still answer emergency calls. In your world I would be writing summonses all day long and will never have time to do anything else. I can walk down a single block and probably write a summons to 70% of the cars parked. If I am in a patrol car I can pull every single car over and write summonses. You would be blown off of your feet for what we can actually write summonses for. The list is amazing yet we use that little thing called discretion and pick and choose what we do write. So if you can come up with an alternative instead of constantly battling every cop or pro-cop civilian on this site, then why don't you? If you cannot come up with a FEASIBLE solution to this problem then just stop wasting your breath.

Unless it was your funeral you deserve a summons for having an unregistered vehicle.
Posted on Tue, May 22 2007 at 04:29 PM
I don't really understand what you are complaining about, either. Your registration was expired. Consider yourself LUCKY that you got a parking ticket and weren't pulled over in a traffic cop and given a yellow summons. Much more money and you only have 24 hours to get that crap registered. At least the officer's car was properly registered. Furthermore, TEA's don't know anything and should be directing traffic and clearing intersections instead of ticketing cars as much. But revenue is revenue.

Correction: I meant "Consider yourself LUCKY that you got a parking ticket and weren't pulled over in a TRAFFIC STOP" not traffic cop lol...

teas dont know anything????? in what sense willnyc... please share your wisdom with us since u got it all figured out .... its the revenue from those tickets that lot of you get your 15% raises

#31 I don't know where to start. You say "Problem is, the cop wouldn't get a ticket for the same thing."
You are right, a cop would not get a ticket for expired inspection because our stuff is up to date. The ICOs in each command make sure of it. All of our vehicles are registered in NYS (not at a cousins house in NC or FL like so many civilian cars), properly registered, and insured.
Infact, to get the very plaque you care so much about we must run our drivers licences and all the cars we own, and provide these printouts to the ICO so he can make sure they are legit, before issuing our new plaque each year. (Not to mention also turning in the old one.)
You go on to say "I remember when Aviation used to drive a news ladies unreg, uninsp, no insurance, no plates VW bug from SI to the BX back in the day, so it's not about one ticket, a whole NYPD perp way of life."
I highly doubt this story, but even if it were true, you said the key words: "Back in the day." This kind of stuff has long since been shut down by the Department. So, I think the only "perp" around is you, who continues to spew your cop hating troll behavior here.

I dont see the problem here---cops car "no ticket for no parking", hearse "no ticket for no parking", your car "no ticket for no parking", fourth car "no ticket for no parking" cops car no ticket for unreg---BECAUSE REG IS GOOD, hearse no ticket for unreg----BECAUSE REG IS GOOD, fourth car no ticket for unreg---BECAUSE REG IS GOOD, you ticket for unreg ---BECAUSE REG IS BAD. Seems to me the TEA or officer was very fair.
Posted on Thu, May 24 2007 at 02:29 AM
All right, I'm sure he concedes the point. Nobody is against obeying the rules. However, there's a question of the cops car being legit, so that's the problem.

We don't mind if you use your discretion with discretion.

this is from december.......seems like someone is holding a grudge......

Still a problem. What's the difference if he goes out and gets it today? (pics)

What's the difference if he took it yesterday? Same condition exists.

Amazing, ticket everyone without bias they say. And if we did that, this site wouldn't be about us abusing our permits. It would be about how strict the Police are cause they write everyone for anything.
