#1, 3: Please read http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/the_problem. The issue is not simply confined to safety hazards, but also the lost meter revenue incurred when Civil Servants park at metered spaces. This also hurts local merchants by taking up spaces that could be used by paying customers. Finally, free parking only encourages driving, which you may have noticed has a deleterious effect on economy, health and quality of life.

There's no such thing as a traffic cop.

Placards are authorized for meters. This is not a legitimate post.

Hey guys, I just wanted to commend you on a fantastic website. Since you posted my car here about 2 months ago, I still drive to work but get here about 5 minutes earlier. I now park in a legal spot that someone that lives in the area would have liked to have! I dont bother putting my placard in the window because I am leaglly parked so its a win for me, I still drive to work and beat some poor resident of a spot. I get a bit of satisfaction when I sit in the car for a few minutes and they drive away with this sad pathetic look on their face when I tell them I am not getting out.

Kudos guys!

#9 Thats what they seem to not understand on this web site. All they do is complain about the perks. They complain about the so called illegal parking, when it is legal for us to park where we want to park. So now we take up all the legal spots and they have to keep circling to find a spot. Way To Go Web site.

#5, You are not making any sense.

First you say "This [driving] also hurts local merchants by taking up spaces that could be used by paying customers." But then you go on to say that "driving... has a deleterious effect on economy."

Which is it?

Is driving by customers good for businesses (boosting the economy), or is driving always bad for the economy?

Please, make up your mind, then post again.

Today i sat and idled for 25 minutes while waiting for a parking spot. I spotted someone getting into their car 1/2 a block back and I quickly reversed to beat out some other poor soul looking for a spot.
Did wonders for the illegal parking situation by not parking in a no Standing Zone and did wonders for the environment by spewing hydrocarbons into the atmosphere while idling 10 minutes longer than my drive.

Again Kudos to you guys.

BTW, I wonder how residential parking is going to work in the downtown brooklyn area, most of these "residents" have their cars registered out of state to beat the high cost of insurance.

to #16 and all the "brilliant" car-heads.

So you're saying you broke the 3-minute idle law 6 times over ("idled for 26 minutes) and are saying that you were more legal? Regarding the sarcastic "did wonders for the environment", why didn't you just turn-off your car while you waited? People actually do it, don't break the law, and save gas too.

Also, it seems like this site is working as you (#16), #12, & #9 attested you are now parking legally due solely to this site! It appears more powerful than any could have possibly hoped for! Thanks for the feedback and happy legal parking to all! Now such horrid things as buses being able to let off/pick-up at bus stops; people in wheel chairs being able to use intersections; Fire Trucks being able to get to fire hydrants; etc. are all possible. BTW - yes, I have helped people in wheel chairs try to get around illegally parked cars and very frequently have to board buses that are forced to "double-park" and congest traffic while stopping next to the non-emergency-parked official cars obstructing the bus stop.

Cheers
