Installing a southbound bike lane between City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge was a noble idea. Unfortunately, even on Sundays police and press vehicles clog this lane, making it dangerous for recreational bike riders to compete with traffic on this narrow roadway. Ironically, this photograph was taken at the same time a congestion pricing rally was underway on City Hall steps. Despite the Bike Lane and No Standing Anytime signs, it's an open secret that there's never any enforcement here.

Press conferences at City Hall mean that NYP plates can park with their permit if they are covering the event. They are in effect HELPING the city by getting the word out. The City sends press releases out so these guys will show up at the event. How would it look if they just ticketed them? That would seem ridiculous. I have already thought about having them park a few blocks away. A lot of them have to bring in camera and equipment and it is heavy.

Its legal to park there now, NYP wins, bike lane is gone.
