Justice is served. Local precinct takes illegal parking SERIOUSLY

Observed by ctown on Fri, Aug 24 2007

This car had a "boot" placed on it. It also has a flyer on the windshield placed there by the 5th Precinct's Lt.
warning that the placard will be confiscated. Apparently the offender didn't heed the warning, because this officer indeed opened up the car door and confiscated the placard!!! I know it's one in a million, but it's a damn great start in Chinatown!!!
The boot remained on the car.

Cock-a-doodle-doo! Where are all those LE and LE wannabees who were trying to drag the site down with their insults and threats and smug predictions that "nothing will ever change"?

That's constructive and respectful, right?

Why haven't we heard anything about this in the news? Don't you think this warrants a CBS 2 story? I mean, if it truly is a victory it would have a news story to go with it.

I also want to know what that letter from the 5th Pct. X.O. says.

Will, there was a much bigger crackdown last year:

Okay, last year's Daily News article states: "In Chinatown, though, merchants and advocates said they were pleased to see the tow trucks this week. A few of the cars towed yesterday appeared to have official-looking placards that were not NYPD-authorized cards." I take that to mean that amongst the towed vehicles included (most likely) Court Officers, Police-Fed. Law Enforcement, and perhaps DOT permits. This seems to be the case again with this car in the post above. It is a vehicle with a Federal Law Enforcement plaque. The article does not seem to say whether or not ANY NYPD-restricted or unrestricted vehicles were towed, let alone summonsed. My inclination is that none were. It appears that, perhaps, we are in the midst of a crackdown on placards NOT issued by the NYPD in the downtown area. I am very curious, however, to see where it will go from here...

I still want to know what the letter from the X.O. said.

As a Chinatown regular, I can attest to the fact that everyone except NYPD will be towed and ticketed, what does the 5PCT X.O. say about that fact? Maybe the uniformed LT. riding shot gun with the civilian tow operator needs a lesson in Placard 101.
