What is This?

Is there a CUNY campus on east 4th Street?
Is there a CUNY campus in Miami?

How does a vehicle that is supposed to have its registration transferred to local area within 10 days get a nice, laminated CUNY permit?

Didnt anyone notice the out-of-state plates?

Is the coffee strong enough on 5th street or are they all still groggy?

This, my friend, is a clever-looking placard that our TEA's are just not trained enough to spot. By the way, parking placard reporter Brendan Keefe has now left CBS for Cincinnati. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070930/ENT/309300001/1025/LIFE . Who will step up now?

Seems to me like this post isn't really a parking or permit problem, it is more of a problem with the TONS of out of state plates that are illegally in NYS.

MOST of these are civilian vehicles. I think there should be an easy way to crack down on these, but there is not.

This is insurance fraud! These out of state plates cost the residents of NYS millions of dollars a year by raising our legitimate insurance rates.

14Feet - At least we can agree on the insurance fraud issue. Over on mybikelane we've found quite a few suspected instances of auto insurance fraud.

If one is interested in pursuing this issue... from the NYS Office of Attorney General website:

"[any] New Yorker who knows of insurance fraud or has reason to suspect it should be sure to call the National Insurance Crime Bureau at 1-800-TEL-NICB or write to:

Insurance Fraud Bureau
New York State Insurance Department
25 Beaver Street
New York, New York 10004"

the placard is real and is issued from some of the colleges who dont have on campus parking and is recognized by NYPD and the DOT, so the officers can park on the street while they are at work. It is to be used just like the NYPD Restricted placard which is to be used during work, I agree that they should have changed there registration, but the officer probably does work for the department seeing as how these plaques are hard to come by and are not issued department wide.
