But wait, there's more!

You'll also receive, at no extra charge, parking on the sidewalk too!

Now what would you pay?!

Nothing! Because you're above the law!

There seems to be plenty of room for pedestrians to walk safely across the street. This is not to mention the fact that the handicap ramp is easily accessible. This is right by the precinct. If anything, this would be the LEAST amount of corruption. Don't forget: if he wasn't parked there, you could park there either. So it is not relevant what you would pay in a parking ticket.

Why dont you try and take the picture from the side showing how much room is left for the pedestrians. It looks like the guy in the white shirt has no prblem getting thru. OH BY THE WAY.... I'm shocked that this site still has morons taking bias one way pictures be fair, if you have a valid argument at least take the picture the right way. If you got any closer to that car you might as well be in it.
P.S thats right, I'm back!!!!

Repost from 10/3/07:
This is in the SEZ for the 13th precinct. This SEZ, like most in this city, is WAY too small to hold all the vehicles it needs too.

Like I've said before, lets move the sidewalk in to half it's current size, make the entire block angle parking only, and make both sides NYPD and FDNY only (which I think it already is). This should make everyone happy. It would still leave room for pedestrians, and add valuable "legal" parking spaces to the SEZ.

While doing this for all precincts would be expensive, I feel that it is infact a very fair compromise for both the City and private citizens.

bklyncop -

No conspiracy at work here. I just usually end up waiting at the red light here while commuting to work. I can snag a pic from my bike.

14Feet - Pedestrians and bicyclists have been forced to "compromise" with motor vehicles for decades now. Sidewalks have been narrowed, streets widened into "boulevards of death" and whole communities destroyed in order to build highways that immediately fill back up with choking automobile congestion. This City is finally starting to realize the error of its ways, and is now beginning the reverse the damage done. NYC is coming to an understanding, perhaps, that cities are made from people, not cars. So, while, sure, there may be some room for pedestrians to squeeze by, my question is "why should they have to?" Why must we stand for any more incursion by motor vehicles? Secondly, you may have noticed, but sidewalks (and streets) are not merely conduits for transportation, but, in a healthy city or town, they are the medium in which public life takes place, and so must be cherished and respected.

Furthermore, if you'll read the pages linked to above about the motives behind this campaign, accommodating motor vehicles by excusing illegal parking (i.e. cutting the sidewalk in half) would only further encourage more private motor vehicle use. That is completely in contradiction to the mission of this site's sponsors.

In light of this, I don't think it's too much to ask the police and other civil servants to obey the laws they are charged with upholding, and to respect the communities they serve.

What is the mission of this wasteful site? You keep saying they are illegally parked but they are not. The NYPD and other city and federal agencies that have valid permits may park where they want to. You people are just jealous because they can park anywhere they want to and you can't. Like I've said before pay the extra tax and build a parking garage or lot just for them to park. End of story and end of your jealous behavior.

dragon,

Again, please read http://nyc.uncivilservants.org/the_problem for your edification. Additionally, below is the mission of Transportation Alternatives, the producer of this site:

"Our Mission is to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile, and to advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit as the best transportation alternatives."

Contrary to your belief, the NYPD and Federal agencies cannot park anywhere they want to. They are also beholden to the law, as has been repeatedly documented.

Finally, I can't speak for anybody else but myself, but I seriously doubt that anybody here is jealous of the illegal parking "privileges". Personally, you couldn't pay me to drive in this city.

well lawandorder I do get paid to drive around this city, its called patrol.. you know that thing that cops do when they drive around protecting the same liberals that trash us all the time. I'm not angry at this site its a cute little hobby of mine. I just dont understand why where we park is such a big deal. I have always said it was envy, maybe hate who will be man enough to admit it? I know I know... no one on this site, you will all say if we have to follow the rules so do you... Guess what? its a perk, get used to it and move on...
P.S you could've peddled the bike a few extra feet and taken a better shot.

Its not the point of reclaiming streets as you say LAW. I love when the NYPD and other agencies park in the spots that I can't park, That means there will be more legal spots for me. I have a permit to park anywhere I want to but I have to be on th job. The NYPD an FDNY in my book can park anywhere they please.

Law, you say " Sidewalks have been narrowed, streets widened into "boulevards of death" and whole communities destroyed in order to build highways that immediately fill back up with choking automobile congestion."

Yes. This is called a "city". If you don't want to live in a crowded city, please leave now. There is still plenty of great country living available all over the United States.

You go on to say "you may have noticed, but sidewalks (and streets) are not merely conduits for transportation, but, in a healthy city or town, they are the medium in which public life takes place, and so must be cherished and respected."

Ahh, right. I forgot. So, thing like illegal outdoor cafes, street vendors, sidewalk biking/skating, and drinking on the stoop are all to be "cherished and respected". Why arn't all those laws enforced in the newly "gentrified neighborhoods" wealthy liberals like to live in? Oh, no, that kind of "juice" with the local Precinct is ok.

9- Too bad your book isn't the one with this city's laws in it.

and 10- Don't be ridiculous. This is a city, but we don't build them to be miserable and sick in them. Higher quality of life is not something we need to leave the city to find, it's something we can build, starting with getting our cops obeying the laws they barely enforce anyway. There's a term called DISCIPLINE. And as we've said well into the dozens of times, all that stuff is illegal too, you want to gripe about it, MAKE YOUR OWN SITE. We picked a particular breach of law to focus on here, as is our right. It's ridiculous to say we can't try to stop ONE kind of violation of law because we don't try to stop ALL of them. Utterly illogical.

I also find it amusing how you guys continuously stab at a group advocating enforcement of laws by a central governing agency with liberalism jokes. You might want to check your terms.

Saint, here's the problem.

Discipline is GONE. Take a look at cops. There is none. Everyone wants the job their way. Sorry, but you get what you pay for, and NYC just does not want to pay for quality cops anymore.

You go on to say "It's ridiculous to say we can't try to stop ONE kind of violation of law because we don't try to stop ALL of them. Utterly illogical."

You guys can do what you want, but guess what? That goes both ways. The police DO NOT have to stop every infraction of the law. It's called discression. Police officers have discression over violations (but please don't flip the argument and say they don't enforce crime [misd + felonies] either, because they have no discression over that and do make arrests for these all the time).

SaintEntreri

The police not stopping every crime has nothing to do with discretion, it has to do with the volume of crime versus the volume of cops on the street. And blatant disregard for violations even when directly witnessed by officers, certainly including some felonies. Don't dare try to blame this on taxpayers who've been ripped for more and more each year for a petty and vindictive 'protection' force.

SaintEntreri, Lets start by informing you a violation is not a crime. There are only two crimes... Felony and Misdemeanor... No more, no less. The other day my partner and I noticed some liberal on his bicycle go thru a red lite at a very busy intersection wearing a transportation alternatives t-shirt, long story short...I use you ready??? discretion. It was a perfect way to get back at all you cry babies who obviously dont practice what you preach. I scolded him like a baby (acted like one) and sent him on his way (to change his diaper) WOW!!! discretion great word, better word when it suits you and yours. After reading how you describe us and our way of doing our job "blatant disregard for violations even when directly witnessed by officers" and "vindictive 'protection' force" make me wish I had this blatant violator in my view again. Better yet,Why dont you ride a bike anywhere near my pct and see where it gets you big mouth. You want enforcment? I warn you and all that ride bicycles ( pleasure or buisness) it is on... i will hammer any and every bicycle violation I see. Have a nice day, and dont forget to thank a cop today and every day... :-)
