I observed seven cars with official permits or plates parked on West 63rd Street across 75 West End Avenue, New York, NY 10023 at 11:30 PM on Jan 9, 2008. This location has a red sign that reads "NO STANDING ANYTIME" and yet the entire curb is filled night after night with cars that carry official permits or plates for overnight parking. It should be noted that this area is completely residential and there are no government offices nearby. A parking space in an area garage is $400 per month. The first picture is a bit dark as it is at night but it establishes the location with the cars filling up the curb from corner to corner. On the right, the park is visible and on the left is the entrance to 75 West End Ave a residential tower with entrance on W. 63rd ST. I will post pictures of the permits or plates for all cars observed.

A parking space is $400 a month, and rookie cops make $600 every two weeks, yeah, awesome.

14', I don't see anything in the post that says these are rookie cops parking here. And don't rookie cops get OT?

BicyclesOnly, The post says 7 cars are parked here, some of them with NYPD permits in the window. We don't know any more then that for sure. Is it hard to believe that some of them might be rookies, not yet at top pay? Thats all I'm saying.
Everyone is quick to say that city workers should pay for commuting, garages, etc, but they don't take into account that city workers have occupancy rules, that make living in this city, for the low pay they get, very very expensive. What sence does it make that you can live 3 hours away in the South Fork of Long Island if you want, but can't live 10 minutes by PATH train in Hoboken?
Oh, and no, rookies get ZERO overtime while in the academy, and very little for the next 6 months while in IMPACT. After that, they are eligable for almost all the other overtime that every other cop is too.

Kewl1....
I live in the building and continually see the cars park and the tenants go into the building for the evening. They treat the street as their own private parking garage....It is offensive that they feel that they don't need to pay for parking as all of their neighbors do...I certainly hope they are reporting the privilege of parking on the street and saving the $400 a month to the IRS..
