Parking down by the station house ~

Observed by ridgewood_queens on Thu, Jan 10 2008

This is by the station house in Mid-Town Manhattan. The car was there at 2:30 pm when I Was walking to work and was there again on my walk home at 1:30 am. The permit is expired and not for this car, a double whammy ! This place ( and I suspect all station house areas ) is a consistent violator for firehydrant space usage - the entire block was free at 1:30 am but it was still in front of the fire hydrant.

What if a poor poochie has to pee ?

First off, the banner says expired permit. I just want to point out that the NYPD has not issued new permits yet this year. They were pulled 3 weeks ago, and sent back to the printers. New permits will be issued shortly, but this "expired permit" is not the fault of the permit holder. It is the fault of the city, and NYPD, for not issuing new permits in a timely manner.

Secondly, The car was still there 11 hours later? That PROVES that cops work hard long scheduals. That cop is at work. Leave him alone, he can't get to his car to move it (even if spots are now available). I'm not saying this car is parked properly, but I'm saying they need to expand the SEZ so that all cars fit, and cop don't have to worry about coming back to the Station House to move their cars.

Do you have proof he was at work? And it doesn't matter whose fault it is, it's an expired permit.

Yeah once again, NYPD blue plaques are good until March 1, 2008. They may look expired but TEA's have been instructed not to ticket these vehicles. Even if they HAD been given new ones, the cars wouldn't get tickets for a few weeks into the new year.

I don't have proof, but I have common sense. Common sense says that a person would not leave their car at work and go home some other way, thats my proof. I'd bet $20 that he was at work, and thats why the car didn't get moved.

And how do you correct the problem of the expired permit if the issuing agency hasn't issued new permits yet? Infact, one of the reasons that the permits got pulled and sent back to the printers is this very site. How can you initiate change, and then complain about it?

My god you are a savior - I have been calling 311 with dutiful perserverance about this site for a year. And the bearer of god news tells me that I have made a dent in this flawed system. Thanks for the news.

Ridgewood, what are you talking about?

Cops would have legit paperwork if the city HAD issued it on time, but they didn't, so it can't be fixed right now. Any paperwork YOU need to have is still being issued properly by the DMV, State, or Fed just as it should be.

Infact, I'd argue that the permit re-print COST the taxpayers of this city a TON of money for nothing. They city simply should have said "Sorry, this years permits are already printed, and the changes you want will be applied to next years batch." But instead they caved, ordered all the permits destroyed, and are reprinting every single one. How does that make sence? What a waste of money.

A few issues have already been addressed, namely the "expired" placard and the teimes, due to the fact that you admit that this is near the precinct in question. As for your other issue, "not for this car, a double whammy !" For your information, Police Officers are issued ONE placard a year, regardless of how many vehicles they own. So this Officer may have driven this alternate car to work or perhaps his vehicle was in the shop and he borrowed a friend's or family member's car to get to work. This policy of "One Placard" issued by the Department per Member of Service is in direct contrast to Firefighters, whose placards are issued by their union and who get a placard for every vehicle registered in their family, regardless of first name- so Husband, Wife, Daughter and Son all have their own placards! I also noticed that FF's cars get singled out at a MUCH lower rate on this site than Cops- Why is that?

I see a private vehicle plate number posted here. isn't that against the rules?

I also see no safety hazard. if there is a fire, the hose will be run through the cars broken windows. if poochie has to pee, the car will be peed on, so you see the only person getting hurt here is the driver of that vehicle.
