Brooklyn BP, Marty Markowitz, Illegally Parked on Sidewalk Outside Borough Hall

Observed by Wright on Fri, Jan 11 2008

Last night I went to Borough Hall to attend an open house for the Downtown Brooklyn Transportation Blueprint Study. A priority initiative of the blueprint is the “introduction of a package of new effective strategies to deal with permit parking abuse in Downtown Brooklyn.” (action #19)

As I left the event, I noticed another car parked on the sidewalk outside Borough Hall that wasn’t there earlier. It stuck out from the other permit abusers who illegally park on the sidewalk because it belongs to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz (the vanity license plates make this clear). It’s completely irresponsible for Marty to publicly flaunt his illegal parking while the City is trying to stop permit parking abuse. I think it’s even more outrageous that he would do this while DOT is inside, presenting initiatives to stop parking scofflaws like himself.

Now that's w2hat i call big game! Congrats and thanks for capturing and posting this image, Wright. After what we saw of Markowitz's appointee Dolly, I guess we should have expected that the "fish rots from the head down."

What do you mean congrats? He does this every day.... So does Scott Stringer in Manhattan when he isn't under the Archway at 1 Centre. You didn't catch anything except BUSINESS AS USUAL. Congrats!!

Oh and you don't even know if it was him driving. He is assigned detectives from Intel Div., you know...

Why don't you post some of your own beep illegal parking photos, Will? I'd love to see them. And even if it is true that Markowitz parks on the sidewalk at work everyday, I would hope that even you Will would have the subtlety and sense of irony to see that it is a bit different to do so outside the presentation of a plan to reduce parking abuse.

The Daily News picked this up. The article is titled "Sidewalk parking near Borough Hall now legal for Brooklyn boro prez, staff."

Marty's gotten caught in a lie, and now he's saying the same thing all the detractors on this site do: "don't you have anything better do to with your time than monitor petty corruption?"

The answer is, lying and stealing public officials need to be monitored, whether the stakes are high or low.

"Borough President Marty Markowitz and his staffers are still parking on the pedestrian plaza next to borough hall - but now it is officially legal," to quote the article. Thanks and good night.

Apparently Marty was misinformed. From yesterday's article:

"Looks like it's not so legal for Borough President Marty Markowitz to park on the sidewalk outside Borough Hall after all."

Why does he have a red emergency light in his dashboard?..Oh i know we will hear a typical govt response such as:"In case of a emergency the borough president needs to respond"...yeah right!,

Does he have a siren too?.probably, also he has the orange ez-pass which allows him to pass through any toll with no charge.

Cmon give us a break!, The Borough President position is largely ceremonial, There are limited things he can really do,

All his little cushy police buff equipment should be taken away, He should take mass transit like anybody else!

NYDN 1/19/08: "For being a parking pig, and thinking he could get away with it, Markowitz is awarded today's New York Knucklehead prize."

p.s. i also noticed he has grille red lights, that means he has flashing wig wag beam lights. his car is set up just like a police car,

Is his car registered as an emergency vehicle?, does he have a official plate on it? no?,

under what statute, regulation, law, is he allowed in any way to posses this equipment?, someone should pursue him on this, i think his response would be quite amusing,

BIKE TO WORK MARTY!, YOU DON'T LIVE THAT FAR AWAY!. be a good example to the citizens of Brooklyn and to the city of New York. Or do politicians don't have do to that anymore?
