Fake permit, again..

Observed by lawandorder on Wed, Mar 05 2008

Update:

8 minutes after the 311 ticket was filed, the 9th precint closed ticket with this message, "The Police Department responded and upon arrival those responsible for the condition were gone."

In other words, they didn't even leave the precinct building.

These vehicles are almost never investigated. I have flagged down Meter Maids, beat cops, cruisers on numerous occasions to investigate. The vehicle only has to have some facsimile of a placard and they leave the scene with speed and prejudice. This is a gaping hole in homeland security. Any vehicle that carries a facsimile of anything official looking id is invisible to those charged with protecting public safety. Imagine if this vehicle was filled with fuel oil mixed with fertilizer and the person in control of the vehicle placed it here for much mayhem.

The fact that these incidents are treated as no threat or no big deal seems a bit over the top in today's world.

I say...There are legal parking spots all over this city that could be used as platforms for terrorist attacks. Drawing a connection between a parking violation and a terrorist attack is a bit extreme. If this was in front of a sensitive location it would get more scrutiny. The first WTC bombing occured in the parking area in a legitimate parking spot.

BTW, lawandorder, police are not like firemen. They don't respond from the precinct. They are already in the field. Can you confirm that a car or footman didn't respond and 8 minutes later the truck was gone?

He will be caught eventually. If he isn't, he is either extremely lucky, or close to the CO of the 9th Pct. I can't see any other reason that they would close the ticket so quickly.

"Imagine if this vehicle was filled with fueloil mixed with fertilizer?" Well if a summons is issued to said explosive-laden truck all you're doing is adding confetti to the bang. I'll stipulate that there should be a unified format to parking placards to eliminate confusion for enforcement. Please know that there are 25+ different permits making it hard to tell which are real. Would it be better to summons all the cars and then rack up overtime voiding summonses to legally parked permit holders?

Because they don't care.

I've left other comments on this picture but they never get posted...Police don't respond from the station house like firemen. They are out in the street already answering 15-20 911 calls every night. They are looking for somebody's missing grandmother, arresting a guy who beat up his girlfriend, handling car accidents, sorting out landlord-tenant disputes, responding to the growing number of robberies and shootings...Sorry if your 311 complaint didn't get much attention. Mayor Bloomberg wants the police dept. to do more with less...

I don't have a problem with the fake plaque more than i have a problem if it it someone impersonating a Officer.

The police need to come down and check who this person is, does he work as a law enforcement officer?,

i have to agree with the other posters that this could be anyone posing as an officer, perhaps testing our system to see if he will be challenged with a fake plaque. Did you think about that?

Neo, the Brooklyn DA's office will not even keep changes of Forgery for a fake ID handed to an Officer when asked to present Identification. What makes you think they will care about something "fake" left on the dashboard of a car? Besides, how do you catch this guy? You want the police to "sit" on his car and wait until he comes to move it? Cause I can tell you right now that that is a waste of what few police recourses we still have out on the street on a daily basis.

Lets say for argument sake that they towed it to the pound and it exploded there, would that be any better?

basically what you really want is the bomb squad to respond to every fake permit is that it? I agree, it could be used by terrorists, but so can a car legitimately parked at a parking meter, or left in a no standing or no parking, until the driver has enough time to get away.

so it really isn't as bad at you think it is. you have a greater chance of getting struck by lightening, than being killed in a terrorist attack-- that is a fact
