Federal Police in the Crosswalk each Week

Observed by downtowner on Tue, Mar 25 2008

This car shows up at least 3 times a week in the same place--in the crosswalk. This is a very busy crosswalk used by most of SI Ferry commuters on their way to the 4/5.

Appears that the placard is not legal (judging by the list of legal permits on this site). At a minimum, the car is illegally blocking the crosswalk.

This is within the Blue Zone at the corner of Bridge and Whitehall Streets.

I understand all the ruckus about this car being in the crosswalk and I actually agree the car deserves a summons. That being said I notice several jaywalkers on the left of the photo halfway up the street which is also dangerous. If I summonsed the car, would you also agree if I then summonsed the jaywalkers? Their actions crossing the street don't seem related to a partially blocked crosswalk.

kender6: you are correct, just be fair about it. If the jaywalkers get ticked, the car should to. If a cop jaywalks they deserve a ticket exactly as a civilian would.

It's all about fairness.

But cops don't write jaywalking summonses. Why? Because cops use their discression for THAT too. So, in this case, cops were fair. No ticket was issued to the car, and none for the jaywalkers. Everyone's happy!

I took a picture of the card, and submitted it with the original post.
It was a "Federal Law Enforcement" placard, expired, and did not look like any of the 'real' placards shown on this site.
