Illegal Parking with patches and academy schedule

Observed by hiyall on Wed, Mar 26 2008

1999 Green Dodge Suburban parked for hours under No Parking Anytime sign next to High School facility and across the street from legal parking for Queen's Center Annex Mall. Missing Front license plate and using January Police Academy Schedule to discourage any legal enforcement of the law. Patches placed in proximity of front window. Car is safety hazard in high traffic, high risk area.

What fake permit? I don't see a fake permit.

There was a patch on dash and coat with patch on steering wheel. I left the photo dark to protect the guilty

And since when is a patch and coat a "permit"? The owner just left his property in plain view.

And how exactly is it that you know that the operator of the vehicle shown is the owner of the property that was left in plain sight?

This is a big soft spot in the underbelly of public safety. The vehicles that illegally park with even a hint of "brethren" are completely offlimits to any scrutiny or investigation for suspicion of anything. Could just as easily be under the control of terrorists for some evil purpose.

In my neighborhood, the police "run away" when the illegal parking is pointed out to them without so much as a 1st glance much less a 2nd one.

Hiyall, in answer to your first question; you don't know. But that still doesn't make a patch and coat a "permit", nor is leaving your property in plain view illegal (although it is a little dumb, since this is NYC, and cars get broken into all the time).

This car is bothering no one, and as such, I'm glad the cops use their discression, and just choose to "runaway". They should, you are wasting their time for nothing.

I don't see a "no parking" sign in this picture. Need more proof.

So the dodge is parked on what looks like some kind of pavement marking...sign notwithstanding.... and that van behind it MUST be even more illegally parked...what's his story?

Is there any PD facility near this location? this is the second photo I've seen posted by hiyall taken at this intersection.

There is no NYPD facility or judicial facility. It is within one block of the Queens Center Mall (Macy's, Pennys, etc) and across the street from the Queen's Center Annex Mall (0utback, Daffys, Red Lobster) parking facility with legal handicapped marked spots too. It is adjacent to the Newtown High School Athletic facility. It is along the divider of the merger of 56th Avenue and Justice Avenue - two of the main traffic road access to the 2 malls. It is high traffic by both vehicles and pedestrians and already the scene of an injury accident that occurred Dec 24, 2006.

The van is perpetually parked there with a handicap placard. It has been reported many times to both 311 as well as this site several months back. No summons has been issued that I am aware of. There are 3 to 4 "No Parking Anytime" signs posted on the small divider that separates 56 Ave from Justice Ave where they merge. The sign is just to the left and in front of the vehicles in the photo. Those that wish for more proof, stop by, sight see the sign, park if you wish and please by all means leave your placard on your dash.

So wait, let me get this right. A van that is "perpetually parked there with a handicap placard" is ok, even though he is obviously abusing his permit, but a city employee who occasionally parks there to shop or eat, is not ok? Is one less dangerous then the other?

And before anyone says "Yeah, but Handicap permits are allowed to park in a no parking zone", I know this. But if he does it EVERY DAY, then he obviously is not using the permit in the spirit for which it was intended. He is using this as his own private spot (something which this site constantly points out with city employee vehicles). Something should be done about this kind of abuse too!

Legal handicapped parking is nearby yet the van parks illegally? Sumthin' fishy here....

The only thing "fishy" is that this site only bothers cops... A civilian parking in the same poor manner is not their concern...
