Above The Law (The Series)

Observed by xiscoman7 on Mon, Apr 07 2008

This is just one of many abuses of law and discrimination that the city falls, hugelly short of addressing. I have many more pictures that I have taken, as well as videos. All taken in the same block radius of Manhatta, around Audubon avenue and 190st.
I called it a discrimation, against civilians, beacuse all who do not have a placard, receive violations while private vehicles of police officers, in the same sidewalk, commiting the same offenses, go un-punished. One traffic officer bluntly said to me once, "they can park where they want, you need to learn the law" talking about the private NYPD officer's vehicle.

You do need to learn the law, it's called discression, and the Traffic Agent can use it as he see's fit.

Hey 14FeetAway, last time I checked, it was not legal for an individual to park in front of a fire hydrant. Obviously the original poster does know the law, and the traffic officer does not.

When will you people learn. They will not ticket their own. They can park any where they please in my book. They deserve that.

HoodWatch, you're correct, it is NOT legal for someone to park in front of a hydrant. An individual MAY be summonsed for it. However, it IS LEGAL for a ticket writter to use their DISCRESSION when issueing a ticket (for a violation). The traffic agent was well within his legal rights to "ignore" the violation, something the original poster would have known if he really did "know the law".

14FeetAway,

You'll find a bunch of solutions on this website: www.transalt.org

Law, Thanks, I checked out the Transit Alternatives site, but it really doesn't mention any solutions. It just gives criptic names of programs like "Performance Parking" and "Street Renaissance". It also mentions wanting to do things like "reform parking placards" and "stop speeding and other dangerous driving", but it never explains how anyone plans to do this. Maybe I'm not going to the right parts of the site, but really, it just looks like the site is nameing more "problems" and still not giving any specific solutions.

14FeetAway: You need to learn that illegal means illegal. Just because the traffic officer chose not to ticket the car doesn't mean that it is OK. The officer that parked there IS IN VIOLATION of the law whether he/she is ticketed or not. That is the point of this site.

If the traffic officers won't do anything, uncivilservants.org will, and that's that.

Carson, you are correct. It is breaking the parking law, even if it is not ticketed. However, it does NOT have to get ticketed, so what more do you want? The parking agent used his/her discression, and didn't ticket. End of story. If you guys want it ticketed, it's easy. Fill out an application, become a NYC Traffic Agent, and write all the tickets your little heart desires. But until then, crying about it will get you nothing.
