Standards/Appeals Candy Store Run

Observed by BicyclesOnly on Sun, Dec 17 2006

This DOT placard holder figures that he can park in the bike lane next to the hydrant without risking a ticket for blocking the hydrant. But in fact, he's creating two safety hazards (for bicyclists as well as nearby residents) instead of one.

He waddled out of the candy shop as I was photo'ing his placard. When I questioned his parking he argued in defense that he was not abusing his placard, because the placard does not entitle him to park where he was (thanks for the admission!). So why is it on your dash, buddy--don't you see the fine print at the bottom stating it is a "felony" to misuse the permit?

Hey Steve, that's actually a permit from the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals. See the "Department" listing near the top of it? See if that is in the pull-down list of agencies that appears when you select DOT.

Thanks, efficient. We've got a nice pink pointer for Standards and Appeals.
