Thumb_94

why can't they issue the permits as a part of their lisence plates ? Like Dr.'s ?

Then we have some more positive ID - as far as the cops go, alkies.

That is a HORRIBLE idea. Officer safety would be comprimised. Not all cops live, work, or visit safe areas. In many of these areas, police are hated simply for being police. If there was an outside indicator, such as a licence plate, that automatically told everyone that the owner was, or is related to, a cop it could be very dangerous. And I know you're going to say "oh, but the permit in the window does that too". Yes, it does, but do me a favor are take a walk threw the 75th, 67th, 44th, 103rd, or the 32nd precincts and tell me how many permits you see. I know for a fact the numbers are gonna be low, and I can guarantee you that way more cops live and work there then you'll see permits.

I agree. Awful idea. I heard of a story a few months ago where an officer got his windshield smashed outside of the 7-5. Tire slashings seem to be pretty common, too. Several commands tell you not to display your plaque for that very reason.
