New York Times: An Uneven Allotment of Parking Near Schools

The teachers at the Crispus Attucks School, P.S. 21, in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, may be among the most fortunate in the city when it comes to on-street parking. There are about 55 teachers and administrators at the school and, according to a city inventory, 60 parking spots on the surrounding streets reserved for their use.

It ranks among the city schools with the most on-street parking, and has more spots than many schools with much larger staffs. At a time when the city is preparing a sweeping change in the way it distributes parking permits for teachers, officials at Crispus Attucks said that even they did not have enough parking to go around.

"We're blessed, considering other schools," the principal, Harold Anderson, said on Wednesday, but "we never had a sufficient number of spaces for the size of the building."
