Another of the 19th precincts finest thumbing his nose at the law and the safety of Fire Fighters and residents. This is right in front of 1160 Third Avenue.
I doubt giving out batteries will work in this case. This city is helter skelter, and Holywood Mike is at the helm!

Wouldn't it be funny if those batteries given out by the mayor and FD is defective... HA. In addition, why do they have plastic license plate holder... Isn't that illegal in NYC!!! Why no ticket given out by the PD or the make-belive wanna-be cops - traffic cops???? Hell, I was given a ticket for having plastic cover and wasn't even given a freaking break. The PD must be blind as bats if they can't see thru clear plastic.

What kind if sick thinking is this for a cop to put public safety at risk, so he can commute and find a quick spot around the corner of the precinct for his own convenience.
Even worse, his fellow oficers condoning his bahavior because they want to make more money.

Come on - he isnt in front of a hydrant - save the outrage for real violations
No he isn't right in front, I would estimate 3 feet and the law is 15 feet, Why don't you try this and see what happens but of course if you are a cop nothing will happen.

that is why we have the discretion on enforcing the law. Leave us alone!!!
Sorry buddy but trying to rationalize breaking the law and creating a saftey hazard by the very person sworn to uphold the law is ridiculous.
I think the car should have been towed and empounded and the placard surrendered for siz months and on a second offense pulled for 3 years.

Perhaps you should pust for new regulations changing the current 15 feet to 3 feet and see if it flies.

With all due respect you have no business in law enforcement if you don't understand the rule of law and now publically announce a campaign of personal revenge.

By the way your nonsense would not hold water even in Judge Judy's court room. I think perhaps you need a refresher course at the academy in ethics.

There is another post on the site at the same hydrant at the time of an alarm.
The car unterfered with access to the hydrant and a week later there was a fire in 1160 Third Avenue.
If you feel the 15 foot law is wrong, I suggest you campaign to get it changed. I think you will not achieve much success. Now unless there is something special about the materials your car is made from allowing matter to pass right through, I suggest you obey the law.
Tell me, does Inspector Murdoch and Police Commissioner Kelly support your position that it is OK for you to be 3 feet from a hydrant for you full shift, Do tell, do tell.

There's a good reason that it's 15 feet. A fully chrged hose curves and sometimes needs to be hooked to the engine (pumper).
With the arc made by the hose, that veh is in the way. Some of the truck co's (ladder) carry dollies to move such veh's out of the way.
I'v actually had an officer from the 19th pct step on my camera during a film change so I couldn't get a picture of a veh on the hydrant right outside the stationhouse before they moved it.
I found them to be most disrespectful both inside and outside the stationhouse and this is just more of it.
I think Bratton had that theory about broken windows. If you reverse that thought in this instance with what shows on the street, imagine what else is going on.

Unfortunately the 19th precinct is one of the worst in the city and I attribute that to arrogant commanding officers with no real respect for the uniform and community. At a recent community board meeting he made it sound like we are lucky his people park at the curb.
Did you get the shield # of the cop who did that, as if IAD gives a flying shit.

I cannot understand how a police officer can block a hydrant like this, when just a few days ago all those kids died in that fire.

Not a chance. Try the subway.

I thing either this police officer does not know the law or thinks he or she is above the law.
It is illegal to park within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant. The painted curbs at hydrant locations do not indicate where you can park.

That looks to me to be about 3 - 4 feet at best.
