court officers drive porche's?
228 e 45th, Manhattan. Observed by hardworker100@gmail.com on Mon, Oct 06 2008
I saw this today on E 45th, between 2nd and third ave in front of the Amish market and had a good laugh with another guy. Why does a court person have a permit to park their porsche on the street......isn't the mere fact that this person is driving an $80,000 plus car enough to ask why they get to park for free? And....if that's how much we are paying our public servants, it's no wonder the city is broke.

New York Daily News: Brooklyn judges park in Columbus Park
News, New York. Observed by lawandorder on Thu, Oct 02 2008
Here come the judges - and their cars.
What was billed as a temporary compromise over judicial parking in park around Borough Hall angered Brooklynites when dozens of judges moved their cars from the south side to the north side Thursday.
"We are outraged. This is a public plaza. Why can't the judges use the curb spaces they already have?" said Judy Stanton, executive director of the Brooklyn Heights Association. "We used to walk through this plaza; now we have to walk around it."
The judges were parked Thursday on a landscaped plaza complete with benches next to the popular farmer's market.
The move was prompted after city Parks Department officials and judges worked out what they called a compromise that required what they say will be two months of construction.
Downtown residents have complained for years about judges stowing their cars in Columbus Park next to Borough Hall. The issue came to a head last spring when judges threatened to sue and park advocates protested.
The compromise allows the judges to keep the parking lot inside Columbus Park but requires them to move off the walkway. Two months of construction forced the judges to be moved to the other side of the plaza surrounding Borough Hall and the old Supreme Court building.
"It's really another example of the judges given an inch and taking a mile," said Wiley Norvell of Transportation Alternatives, which has been battling the judges. "We're not happy with the compromise. It's highly suspect."

New York Daily News: Cops bust fake parking placard and credentials mill in Brooklyn
News, New York. Observed by lawandorder on Fri, Sep 19 2008
A Manhattan postal worker has been charged with cranking out and selling phony parking placards and credentials for high-profile sporting events - a troubling security breach.
Officials from the NFL, NHL, NBA and Major League Baseball were alerted after cops busted Jerome Knauer, 43, yesterday and seized a trove of bogus but realistic access tags.
Knauer, a nerdy bachelor who co-workers nicknamed "Sleepy" for his habit of sleeping on the job, used his home computer to create the documents, cops said.
"He looks like a bum, but he paints like a maestro," said a law enforcement source who saw some of the fakes.
A mail sorter at the Lenox Hill Station postal facility on the upper East Side, Knauer drew the focus of investigators after complaints about phony NYPD parking placards cropped up.
One of the placards - which allow cops to park in off-limits zones - had the markings of Queens' 115th Precinct, where Detective Joseph Trovato began a probe.

New York Post: "PARK PERK FOR ELITE SCHOOLS"
News, New York. Observed by lawandorder on Sun, Sep 14 2008
Public school teachers have had most of their golden parking passes pulled - but private schools with city-sanctioned parking spots have been left untouched by Mayor Michael Bloomberg's effort to unclog city streets.
At least a dozen swanky private Manhattan schools, from elementary schools to colleges, have "faculty vehicles only" zones designated in front of their buildings, a Post survey found.
The perks apply across the board, to religious and secular schools, with eight spots each going to: Regis, one of the top Catholic high schools in the city; the Ramaz School, an Upper East Side Jewish elementary school; and the secular Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School.
It's unclear if the city has any plans to reduce or eliminate such zones for private educators. Their public school counterparts will have their city-issued parking placards slashed 80 percent as of Oct. 1 - with the number reduced from 63,390 to 11,150.
The mayor should be applauded for the cuts, said advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, but the private school handouts are unjustified.

cypress avenue and stockholm street, Brooklyn. Observed by QueensWatcher on Wed, Sep 10 2008
This happens daily on Stockholm Street between St. Nicholas and Cypress Avenues in Brooklyn. The person who owns this vehicle uses the hydrant as their own private parking space, believing the invalid permit they have in the window gives them immunity from punishment. The placard belongs to someone working in the NYPD's Housing P.S.A #9 which is on Jewel Avenue in Flushing, Queens. Total disregard for fire safety on display.

This 2007 Honda not only is parked too close to the fire hydrant, but also has a placard belonging to an officer at the 30th Precinct in Manhattan, which is nowhere close to this spot near the Brooklyn-Queens border. It also has a film over the rear license plate to evade red light cameras, so it's possible that parking violations aren't all the driver is guilty of. The 104th Precinct frequently drives through the area, stops to look at this car parked illegally, sees the placard and keeps driving while others get tickets for being parked further away from the johnnypump.

New York Post: SCHOOLS 'SPACE' STATIONS; RESERVED PARKING GALORE
News, New York. Observed by lawandorder on Tue, Sep 02 2008
By DAVID SEIFMAN, City Hall Bureau Chief
Mayor Bloomberg yanked more than 80 percent of the school system's parking permits, but officials never examined the actual allotment of reserved spaces - and that's left some schools still with a generous supply of spots, despite their proximity to mass transit.
The most visible case in point - if only because it's two blocks from the mayor's home on the Upper East Side - is PS 6 at 45 E. 81st St. off Madison Avenue.
Records released by the mayor's office show the highly rated elementary school has 23 parking spaces for 54 teachers and 13 other employees.
But it's not clear why any teacher needs to commute by car when the No. 6 line, where the mayor himself is a frequent passenger, is only a few blocks away at Lexington Avenue and East 77th Street.
