NYPD 6th Precinct

Observed by skap6 on Tue, Jan 06 2009

This vehicle has been without a front license plate for at least 10 months. Anonymous letters to the captain of the precinct as well as NYPD Headquarters have not made a difference. The windows on this vehicle are so darkly tinted that I can not read the permit number.

This vehicle is sometimes parked in the area designated for Police Vehicles.
Why no front license plate?????
Isn't this illegal? How about the tinted windows???

Thank you. The post has been fixed. The plate on the rear of the vehicle is a NYS plate. Yes, the windows appear to be illegally tinted as well.

maybe it's a decoy vehicle, owned by the police to run stings on vehicle thefts. Not sure if there's any significance to the 6th precinct and auto theft?

Hmmm decoy vehicle that places a placard on the dash. So you think that this is a good trap?

Hiyall, decoy vehicles are issued permits so the aren't ticketed while parked and not being used for decoy operations, most precincts don't have garage parking to "hide" these autos, and if it is a decoy being stored, and the violation is a street cleaning/alternate side parking sign, then I'd say they're trying to minimize the impact to the local area. ASSUMING of course it IS a decoy vehicle. Also if it's a decoy, then of course letters to the command would go unanswered regarding the vehicle to prevent it's being "outed".

so storing decoy vehicles with tags identifying them as cop's vehicles is a good idea? ... seems like the best place to store a decoy vehicle is where it may be stolen or vandalized without the placard.

What purpose is buying a trap and hanging on the basement wall? Is this a good use of resources?

This goes to show that hiyall has no idea what he is talking about. Where are they supposed to put them if they don't have a garage?

Hiyall allow yourself to be educated: >IF< this vehicle is a decoy, then parking it with a "cops" placard maintains the illusion of it being a private auto. Second you don't "store" a decoy where it can be stolen/vandalised etc, as these types of operation don't run 24/7. All you would get is a destroyed asset. Even the best traps are stored when not in use. You have an ignorance of policing that has no bounds. If the auto is a cops' personal car, I'm sure you'll continue to whine about it being parked illegally.

Thank you for the info Kender6.

I will record and report any vehicle that is illegal and diminishes public safety - no matter what employer the driver works for.

You keep on documenting hiyall, but whereas violating a Street Cleaning Rule sign (SCR) is a violation, I can't see how it diminishes public safety. (you can now reply with some lame crack about pollution building up to the rafters since sanitation has to wait two days before sweeping the street again). I wonder if the Iraqis complain about double parked HummVees, guess I'll find out. See you all in six months.
